One of the poetry collections of poet Minh Thuy.
Until the end of 1965, when I returned to C7 (Southwest Region Arts Subcommittee), the friendship between the three brothers was still close, noble, and rare in the world. Ut Trieu was the oldest, formerly the youngest son of a rich family and the "Big Brother" with the most graceful demeanor; Ba Cao was the most gentle, honest, and handsome; Minh Thuy (Tu Moi) was the most intelligent, difficult, often strict and preachy, often found fault, argued with his brothers, and liked to have young lovers... All three famous brothers happily accepted me as the fourth member, the "fourth" position. Often, the three brothers asked me to go to the camp of Mr. Nam Chon in Kinh 17 to ask for red crabs and mao fish (demon-faced fish) to serve as snacks while drinking Thanh Tung rice wine (made by Uncle Tam Trieu - the talented photographer and artist in-law Ut Minh Dau Vo from delicious charcoal sticky rice).
Now, this group only has me. Minh Thuy passed away after Ba Cao and Ut Trieu, just over ten years ago, when his life was at a dead end. He had ulcers all over his body caused by a very strange skin fungus, which made him embarrassed and unable to edit his valuable manuscripts.
Regarding poetry, he has hundreds of poems, of which the best is “Letter to Wife”, which is widely welcomed by readers. The poem contains witty and charming sentences such as:
"My toenails rot in the rice season and then I win big
"Do you miss anyone when you make rice paper on Tet holiday?"
The poem "Spring I carry golden sand" is also very good.
He had the demeanor of an intellectual, completing his daily routine. He woke up early to brush his teeth, shave, and look in the mirror to see “if there was anything else to fix” before going to work. He was honest and hot-tempered, but his hot-tempered style was completely different from that of writer Nguyen Mai. He considered the problem carefully before “firing”. But once he “attacked”, he was never tolerant. A few years later, because of disagreements in the office, he turned to attack two old friends, Ut Trieu and Ba Cao. Towards the end of his life, he lived alone. When Ut Trieu and Ba Cao passed away, perhaps he regretted it and wanted to turn his sadness into stone!
Near the end of his life, he once went to Tra Vinh as if to find his youthful footsteps. He visited the talented painter Phong Ba, improvised a lifelong autobiographical poem, making Phong Ba and his wife admire him. And also that time, he went to the office of the Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee, visited the Provincial Party Committee Secretary Bui Quang Huy - that was his resistance friend from his youth. He was received warmly and intimately by the Provincial Party Committee Secretary. He was satisfied and returned to his "humble house" in Can Tho. Writing a letter to greet his comrades in the Southwest Region Propaganda Department when they organized a meeting in Kien Giang was also his farewell to his old comrades.
Western poetry industry lost you!...
