Ambush to arrest illegal sand dredging ship on Red River

(HNMO) - On May 16, the Traffic Police Department ( Hanoi City Police) is preparing a case file to handle subjects who illegally mined sand on the Red River. The unit has temporarily detained 2 vehicles for further investigation.

Previously, at around 10:00 p.m. on May 15, Waterway Police Team No. 1, Traffic Police Department, in coordination with Dan Phuong District Police and Me Linh District Police, conducted reconnaissance and ambush on the Red River in the border area between Lien Hong Commune, Dan Phuong District and Van Khe Commune, Me Linh District, and discovered a watercraft with registration number PT-0301, with sand mining tools and equipment attached to it, which was mining sand from the Red River bed and pumping it to the side of a cargo vessel with registration number VP-1846.

Upon inspection, there were 3 people on the suction vessel with registration number PT-0301: Dao Van Cuong (born in 1991 in Zone 16, Ngoc Chau Ward, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province) was the driver of the vehicle, Nguyen Van Tung (born in 1990 in Zone 16, Ngoc Chau Ward, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province) was the person working on the vehicle; Nguyen Xuan Hoang (born in 1984 in Cong Hoa Village, Phu Linh Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi) was the person working on the vehicle.

On the ship with registration number VP-1846, there were two people: Khong Van Nam (born in 1990, Phuong Lau village, Viet Xuan commune, Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc province) was the driver of the vehicle and Nguyen Van Manh (born in 1990, zone 7, Lien Hoa commune, Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province) was the person working on the vehicle.

At the time of inspection, the people on the suction vessel could not present documents related to the vessel, could not present certificates of professional competence, or mineral exploitation licenses issued by competent state agencies. The cargo vessel could present vehicle documents and certificates of professional competence.

The amount of sand in the cargo hold of the ship at the time of inspection was about 100m3 of sand mixed with water. The working group completed the initial procedures and temporarily detained the vehicle at Son Tay Port, Son Tay Town (Hanoi) for further verification, clarification and handling according to the provisions of law.
