Why iPhones Don't Sell as Well as Android Phones in the US?

According to PhoneArena , CIRP believes that the usage patterns of the two groups of iPhone and Android users may explain why iPhones don't outsell Android phones in the US. Specifically, CIRP says that iPhone users keep their phones longer than Android users, leading them to upgrade to new models less often than Android users.

There are various reasons why Android users want to change their devices more often.

Only 10% of iPhone owners surveyed by CIRP purchased a new iPhone model less than a year after their previous purchase. In contrast, 23% of Android phone buyers upgraded from their previous Android phone within a year. Furthermore, 61% of iOS users had kept their previous iPhone model for more than two years, while only 43% of Android users kept their phone for that long.

With iPhone users supposedly being wealthier, many believe that it would be ideal for them to upgrade more often. CIRP explains why this is not the case, saying that Android phones are less expensive than iPhones, which makes it more likely that Android users will part with their old phones. Furthermore, there are more deals on Android phones than iPhones, which again makes it more convenient for buyers to shop for a new Android phone.

CIRP also notes that, unlike the iPhone, which gets annual upgrades, most top Android phone makers release multiple models throughout the year, so there will be more instances where users will be tempted to buy a newer model.

Another factor not mentioned in the report could be that iPhones generally enjoy better software support than Androids, which could be why iPhone users don’t feel compelled to buy a new model as often. Additionally, because iPhones have faster chips than Android phones, they’re better able to handle future apps.
