Old photography class

In April 2003, 5 members of the Photography Association were sent by the Quang Nam Literature and Arts Association to attend the Art Photography Creation Camp in the South Central and Central Highlands provinces. More than 20 years have passed, but the training content is still valuable and is the guideline for us to create high-quality art photography works.

The light of photography

The class was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information (formerly) and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in Ba Ria - Vung Tau , attracting 36 students from the provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Quang Nam.

Of which, Quang Nam has 5 students including Duong Phu Tam, Nguyen Luong (Hoi An Photography Club), Bui Minh Phung (Quang Nam Newspaper), Huynh Truong Phat (Nui Thanh Radio and Television Station) and Nguyen Dien Ngoc (Tam Ky Radio and Television Station).

From April 21 to 29, 2003, students were taught by photography artists Le Phuc, Nguyen Dang, Vu Nhat, Vu Han, Vo Thanh Tung, Vu Van Canh and Duy Anh on the topics of Digital Photography; Technical specifications of Nikon D1X - Nikon D1H digital cameras and how to use them; Types of Nikon film scanners; Methods and techniques for creating artistic photographs; Improving the quality of artistic photography in the spirit of Directive 18 of the Central Party Secretariat and some other related contents.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also spent 2 days for students to practice composing in Long Hai, Long Dien and other locations in Vung Tau City.

Some lecturers from far away such as NSNA Vu Han, Duy Anh, Vo Thanh Tung had to travel hundreds of kilometers from their homes to the Composition Camp by motorbike to teach. Despite many difficulties, with a sense of responsibility, enthusiasm, and dedication, the lecturers contributed to the completion of the proposed program with the Organizing Committee.

Artist Vu Van Canh - Chief of Office of Vietnam Artists Association commented: "The lecturers are artists with experience in teaching. Each person has a specific topic, teaching methods and content are highly pedagogical, vivid illustrations, creating appeal and attracting listeners.

Being both teachers and colleagues, there is no gap between teachers and students, so the lecturers have made the classroom atmosphere more joyful and highly effective. That can be confirmed through the evaluation results, with 14 students achieving excellent results and 22 students achieving good results.

Friendship everywhere

The Artistic Photography Camp helps students gain a basic understanding of the position and role of photojournalism, digital photography, and the methods and techniques of artistic photography.

In particular, clarifying the creative orientation in the spirit of Directive 18 of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on "Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity".

Although the students are photographers from many different localities, the learning process has created a bond and sharing. In particular, the "local" students have enthusiastically helped not only with learning materials but also acted as "navigators" for the brothers and sisters to compose and exchange every afternoon.

At the farewell party, Ms. Tran Thi Tro (in Ba Ria - Vung Tau) confided: "Photographers from the South Central - Central Highlands provinces in general, Quang Nam in particular, come here as if bringing the scent of flowers from a foreign land, the love of colleagues. Hopefully one day soon we will meet again, bringing with us an atmosphere full of enthusiasm in photography!"

After more than 20 years, many of them have become members of the Vietnam Association of Fine Arts; many of them have won high prizes in regional, national and international competitions and have been awarded prestigious titles. Some have settled abroad but still keep in touch, visit and encourage each other to overcome difficulties in life to create.

Friendship spreads far and wide, some common artists such as Truong Dang Huy (Binh Dinh), Bao Hung (Dak Lak), Le Chau Dao (Phu Yen), Ngo Huy Tinh (Gia Lai), Nguyen Thanh Thao (Ba Ria - Vung Tau)... are ready to create all conditions to help whenever their brothers come to the locality to compose.

More than 20 years have passed, but the knowledge and camaraderie from the creative camp remain valuable, allowing us to pursue our passion for photography as well as connect in life until today.
