Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang received the Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat for the 2025-2027 term.

On July 14, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang received Mr. Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat for the 2025-2027 term.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that over the 36 years of establishment and development, APEC has affirmed its role as the leading economic cooperation mechanism in the Asia- Pacific region, a driving force for promoting economic integration and sustainable, inclusive development in the region. As an active member, Vietnam always attaches importance to APEC cooperation and proactively contributes to the common effort to realize the APEC Vision 2040 of an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community. According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang, this is clearly demonstrated through Vietnam's contributions since joining APEC in 1998, including the proud results of the APEC Years 2006 and 2017, as well as the proactive and determined spirit of Vietnam, from the central to local levels, in preparing and organizing APEC Year 2027.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang also highly appreciated the close cooperation and effective support of the APEC Secretariat for Vietnam over the past time, especially when Vietnam hosted APEC in 2006 and 2017. To continue preparing for the success of APEC 2027, the Deputy Minister requested the Secretariat to continue supporting Vietnam in the process of developing priority contents and topics as well as communication activities, capacity building, especially in promoting APEC's current areas of interest such as innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, etc.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang highly appreciated the close cooperation and effective support of the APEC Secretariat for Vietnam, especially when Vietnam hosted APEC in 2006 and 2017.

Speaking to the Deputy Minister, Executive Director Eduardo affirmed that members are very interested in and value APEC cooperation, especially in the context of many fluctuations in the world and the region, geopolitical competition and increasing protectionism. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that members have proposed to host APEC Years from now until 2033, including: China (2026), Vietnam (2027), Mexico (2028), Singapore (2030), Japan (2031), Chile (2032), Papua New Guinea (2033).

Mr. Eduardo appreciated Vietnam's prompt preparations for APEC Year 2027, including the establishment of the APEC 2027 National Committee, as well as the early selection of Phu Quoc as the venue for APEC 2027 Summit Week. He expressed his belief that with the experience of hosting APEC Year 2006 and 2017, and the spirit of determination, proactiveness, and responsibility, Vietnam will successfully organize APEC Year 2027 with many substantive results.

At the meeting, Executive Director Eduardo also suggested a number of areas that APEC members could promote in the coming period, such as trade in services, structural reform, supply chain connectivity, tourism, human resource development, etc. Mr. Eduardo said that he and the Secretariat committed to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the process of preparing and organizing APEC Year 2027.
