This is the result of the efforts of the entire political system from the central to local levels as well as businesses and people in the process of building, restoring and developing Vietnam's tourism industry. In Dong Nai, after re-establishing the new administrative map, the province's tourism industry has also taken on a new look on a large scale, contributing to increasing the value of the local tourism industry.

Historical milestones

On July 9, 1960, Vietnam Tourism Company was established under Decree 26/CP of the Government . In the context of the country still at war, the establishment of Vietnam tourism industry affirmed the bold but long-term strategic step of the Party and State.

The most obvious breakthrough of Vietnam's tourism industry began in the 1990s, with the establishment of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (1992), followed by the Party and State's guidelines, policies and directives on tourism development. Specifically: Directive No. 46 of the Central Party Secretariat (1994) on leadership in innovation and tourism development in the new situation; Conclusion of the Politburo (1998) on tourism development in the new situation..., created the foundation for the tourism industry to develop in a modern and professional direction.

In the first 6 months of 2025, Dong Nai welcomed over 2.67 million tourists. Of which, domestic visitors reached about 2.6 million, international visitors over 70 thousand. Revenue from tourism services reached over 1.9 trillion VND, an increase of over 30% over the same period in 2024.

In particular, in 2017, the Politburo issued Resolution 08-NQ/TW on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector. This is the first resolution on tourism development, demonstrating the Party's policy and guidelines in developing the "smokeless" industry to match Vietnam's existing potential.

Up to now, after 65 years of formation and development, Vietnam's tourism industry has gone through many difficulties, growing stronger and stronger, affirming the Vietnamese tourism brand on the world tourism map. Currently, Vietnam tourism has defined its own direction, had many strategic breakthroughs and continuously had tourism development policies in a modern, sustainable direction, suitable for each event and each stage of the country.

Typically, after the severe crisis period due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government has continuously issued new policies such as: Resolution 82/NQ-CP of the Government on tasks and solutions to accelerate the recovery and effective and sustainable development of tourism; Directive 08/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on comprehensive, fast and sustainable tourism development; Decision No. 509/QD-TTg of 2024 approving the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045..., and most recently, Official Dispatch 34/CD-TTg of the Prime Minister on promoting tourism development, ensuring the implementation of double-digit economic growth rate.

Dong Nai aims to develop green and sustainable tourism

In Dong Nai, the tourism industry also began to flourish since the 1990s. At that time, Dong Nai had famous destinations such as: Buu Long Tourist Area, Tan Trieu grapefruit garden, Cat Tien forest, Hang Gon ancient tomb... which left an impression on the hearts of locals and tourists.

As a tourist area that has existed for more than 30 years in Dong Nai, Buu Long tourist area is still a destination known to tourists nationwide with its cool green natural space and many impressive landscapes, such as Long An lake, which is considered a miniature Ha Long Bay in the South.

Sharing about the development direction of Buu Long Tourist Area in the coming time, Acting Director of Buu Long Tourist Area Nguyen Danh Thinh said that with the strength of being an eco-tourism destination located right in the center of the province, on holidays and Tet, Buu Long Tourist Area attracts tens of thousands of visitors. Based on the existing strengths of landscape and green natural space, Buu Long Tourist Area regularly changes and decorates to create more impressions and novelty for visitors. In particular, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Buu Long Tourist Area has had an impressive breakthrough. The number of visitors coming to visit on weekends, holidays and Tet has increased sharply compared to previous years. In the coming time, Buu Long Tourist Area will continue to promote its strengths, aiming to develop Buu Long into a modern eco-tourism area, worthy of international standards.

Based on the policies and directions of the Government, the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee has issued Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU on developing tourism into an important economic sector of the province. To concretize the Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee has developed plans to develop tourism in a green and sustainable direction, based on available local resources such as forests, waterfalls, lakes, results from new rural construction, etc. In particular, the concretization of resolutions and directions of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee in implementing targets, tasks and solutions to promote the province's economic growth in 2025 to achieve the target of 10%.

Sharing about the orientation of Dong Nai tourism development in the coming time, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan said that 2025 marks an important turning point when Dong Nai province has just expanded its administrative boundaries, becoming one of the localities with the richest natural area and tourism resources in the country. With an area of over 12.7 thousand km² and a population of nearly 4.5 million people, Dong Nai has a complete tourism ecosystem - where forests, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, along with relics, cultural identities and ethnic communities all exist in harmony with each other.

Dong Nai will have new forms of tourism, creating richness and attracting tourists such as: Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve, Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park, Tri An Lake, Mo Stream, Mo Waterfall, Ba Ra Mountain; traditional craft villages, ethnic villages, organic agricultural models, community tourism, ecological glamping... All create a green, diverse, original and unique tourism ecosystem.
