Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation between Vietnam Paralympic Committee and Seoul City Disabled Sports Association

On the afternoon of June 24, in Hanoi, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Le Thi Hoang Yen had a meeting and worked with a delegation of officials from the Seoul City Sports Association for the Disabled (PSA) led by Vice President Jung Hee Young.

Warmly welcoming Ms. Jung Hee Young and the delegation of the Seoul City Disabled Sports Association to visit the Vietnam Sports Department, Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen hoped that the meeting would open a new chapter for cooperation between the two sides in the field of disabled sports.

Through the cooperation between Seoul and Vietnam, disabled sports are expected to continue to develop strongly.

At the reception, sharing some information about the Vietnam Paralympic Committee, Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen said: The Vietnam Paralympic Committee, formerly the Vietnam Sports Association for the Disabled, was established in 1995. Through three stages of formation and development, the sports movement for the disabled has been present in 45/63 provinces and cities, with about 33-35 localities regularly sending athletes to participate in national competitions.

Vietnamese disabled sports have gradually affirmed their position in the international sports arena. Vietnamese disabled athletes have made their mark at many Southeast Asian and Asian Games for Disabled People, and especially the three recent Paralympics. Notably, at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals, ranking 55/162 countries and territories - the highest achievement in the history of Vietnamese disabled sports.

However, in reality, Vietnamese disabled sports are still facing many difficulties, therefore, the presence of Ms. Jung Hee Young and the delegation of Seoul City Disabled Sports Association at the Vietnam Sports Department as well as the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the two parties will contribute to opening up great opportunities for Vietnamese disabled sports on the path of development and affirming its position in the international sports arena. Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen expected.

For her part, Ms. Jung Hee Young expressed her sincere thanks to Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen and members of the Vietnam Paralympic Committee for taking the time to welcome the delegation. Ms. Jung Hee Young also affirmed that today's meaningful meeting as well as the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will contribute significantly not only to promoting the development of sports for disabled people but also to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two sides.

Delegation of Seoul City Disabled Sports Association visited Vietnam Sports Department.

Introducing the Seoul Disabled Sports Association, Ms. Jung Hee Young said that the agency was established in 2007, is a public organization under the capital city of Seoul - Korea, specializing in the field of disabled sports. The Seoul Disabled Sports Association always makes constant efforts to help disabled people easily access sports.

Accordingly, in the field of professional sports, the Seoul NKT Sports Association is actively participating in 3 major domestic comprehensive sports tournaments (winter - summer - students), organizing the Seoul Mayor's Championship, operating a talent team, supporting the training of athletes and coaches,... currently has about 1,800 people participating in professional activities within the framework of Seoul City.

In addition, international exchange and competition activities are also being strongly promoted. The Seoul NKT Sports Association has organized many international tournaments in sports such as Boccia, Tennis, Golf, Marathon,... and conducted friendly sports exchanges and joint training with countries such as Vietnam, China, Indonesia...

In addition, the Seoul Sports Association for People with Disabilities is also implementing programs such as: creating job opportunities for people with disabilities, supporting participation in tournaments, supporting jobs and professional athletes, and linking with community activities to help people with disabilities develop their capacity and increase their confidence through sports.

In particular, the Seoul Sports Association for the Disabled considers international cooperation (exchanges and competitions) to be extremely important and is promoting cooperation with sports organizations for the disabled around the world to promote common development.

Ms. Jung Hee Young believes that PWD sports will become a bridge for international friendship, integration and accompany the Vietnam Paralympic Committee to realize cooperation contents.

Ms. Jung Hee Young also hopes that in the future, through cooperation between Seoul and Vietnam, disabled sports will continue to develop strongly.

Within the framework of the working session, Ms. Jung Hee Young and Mr. Tran Duc Tho - Secretary General of the Vietnam Paralympic Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Paralympic Committee and the Seoul Paralympic Sports Association.

The five-year agreement (2025-2029) will contribute to promoting the development of PWD sports through organizing an exchange event once a year. The agreement also states that the two Parties will jointly decide on the number of sports and the scale for the successful organization of the PWD sports exchange event.
