Jota was just 19 at the time, having just moved from Paços de Ferreira - the club where he started his career and spent his entire childhood. Thanks to the transfer fee of Jota to Atletico (7 million euros), the team's stadium was renovated and a stand named after him was built - as a symbol of attachment and gratitude.
This morning, the whole town of Paços de Ferreira was immersed in an atmosphere of sadness. "We have not lost a player, we have lost a brother," a club leader said in tears.
At Liverpool, Jota is remembered as a quiet warrior, a versatile striker who never stopped fighting. Quiet, unassuming, but always there at the right time and scoring important goals.
