Not only enriching themselves, good farmers and businessmen also help people around them develop the economy , improve income, stabilize their lives, and contribute positively to the overall development of the locality.

Promoting socio-economic development in border areas

Not only is he a good farmer and businessman for many years, Mr. Nguyen Van Sau (born in 1969), a member of the Farmers' Association of Binh Phu Hamlet, Phuoc Binh Commune, Trang Bang Town, is also a strong inspiration for the spirit of rising up from poverty, becoming rich legitimately and actively contributing to the community.

Starting in 2010, with the support of the agricultural sector, local authorities and the Farmers' Association, Mr. Sau boldly converted 10 hectares of his family's rice fields to grow Queen pineapples combined with raising fish in the fields. Despite many difficulties due to flooding and lack of dikes, thanks to the support of the government and perseverance, the first pineapple crop brought his family an income of over 100 million VND/ha.

Seeing the obvious results, in the following years, Mr. Sau continued to expand the scale. Up to now, his family's pineapple growing area has reached 60 hectares, combined with fish farming to bring in great profits. After deducting expenses, he earns more than 3.7 billion VND in profit each year. Currently, his production model creates regular jobs for 39 workers and 42 seasonal workers, with an average income of about 6.3 million VND/person/month.

In parallel with agricultural production activities, Mr. Nguyen Quang Sau's family also developed a beer, soft drink, and gas dealership and established a construction company to serve local traffic and irrigation projects. In 2020, Mr. Nguyen Van Sau proactively asked for the opinion of the Trang Bang Town Labor Federation to establish a grassroots Trade Union with 10 union members and established a Party cell with 3 party members participating in activities.

Not only is he good at economics, Mr. Nguyen Van Sau is also a typical example in the patriotic emulation movement. He and his family actively participate in the movements: "Tay Ninh joins hands to build new countryside", "All people protect national border sovereignty ", "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably"...

Over the past 5 years, he has helped more than 25 households escape poverty, provided technical assistance and capital to more than 50 members with a total amount of about 500 million VND. Every year, he and his family donate more than 150 million VND to social activities such as building solidarity houses, charity houses, and contributing to various community funds.

In the 2020-2025 period, he spent over 1.3 billion VND to build 2 new rural welcome gates; repair about 150km of rural roads; lower the voltage of 2 transformer stations and stretch 6km of power lines to help 20 households in the border area have electricity. In particular, he supported land and housing for 11 disadvantaged households with a total value of over 500 million VND.

With his tireless efforts and contributions, from 2020 to present, Mr. Nguyen Van Sau has been awarded many noble certificates of merit by the Prime Minister, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, recognizing his outstanding achievements in production, new rural construction and development of the peasant class.

Promoting advantages of irrigation, developing aquaculture

From the wild land on the shore of Dau Tieng Lake, Mr. Pham Van Toai, a farmer in Phuoc Minh Commune, Duong Minh Chau District, has turned this place into an effective aquaculture area with an income of over 2.5 billion VND per year. His model of raising soft-shell turtles and snakehead fish not only brings a stable economy to his family, but also creates jobs for many local workers.

Mr. Pham Van Toai has developed a stable economy thanks to the commercial turtle farming model.

Mr. Toai said that in 1994, his family left their hometown of Hau Giang to settle in Phuoc Minh commune, which was then a wild land. In the early years, he farmed rice, cassava, beans, etc., but life was still precarious.

After nearly 10 years of switching to raising red tilapia in the West Canal and then moving cages into Dau Tieng Lake, he was forced to stop due to many unfavorable factors. After that, he continued to try his hand at raising cows, but due to lack of experience, more than 50 cows died of disease, causing his family to once again fall into poverty.

The turning point came to him in 2007. Encouraged by the Commune Farmers' Association and local authorities, Mr. Toai went to Dong Nai to learn about the soft-shell turtle farming model. Upon returning, he invested in digging ponds and buying 2,000 turtles. After many years of accumulating experience, he now owns 50 soft-shell turtle ponds on an area of 3.7 hectares, with a total herd of more than 100,000 turtles, bringing in a profit of more than 1.5 billion VND each year.

Mr. Pham Van Toai has developed a stable economy thanks to the commercial turtle farming model.

Not stopping there, to take advantage of the waiting time to harvest soft-shell turtles - which lasts up to 18 months - Mr. Toai continues to invest in raising snakehead fish. This fish has high economic value, only eats small fish, natural food and does not use industrial food. After about 9 months, it can be sold, if raised for 15 months, each fish can reach a weight of 4-5kg.

Up to now, he is maintaining a model of 54 ponds, including 50 ponds of soft-shell turtles and 4 ponds of snakehead fish, with a total of about 200,000 fish. On average, each year, after deducting expenses, he earns a profit of over 2.5 billion VND.

Not only enriching his family, Mr. Toai also actively shares production experience with more than 24 farmers in the commune, supports interest-free capital for 6 households in difficult circumstances (total value of over 50 million VND), creates regular jobs for 13 workers with stable salaries of 5-6 million VND/person/month.

Mr. Toai developed the model by proactively sourcing locally produced breeds.

As a good farmer, Mr. Toai also enthusiastically participates in social and charity work in the locality. Every year, he contributes to funds launched by the Commune Farmers' Association and local authorities such as: Farmers' Support Fund, Agent Orange Fund, Education Promotion Fund, giving gifts to poor households on holidays and Tet...

Boldly change crops

From a civil servant with a modest income, Mr. Phan Van Tha, a farmer in Tan Bien town, Tan Bien district, turned to agricultural production. After more than 40 years of working hard on the land, Mr. Tha's family now owns nearly 160 hectares, with an annual income of more than 6.5 billion VND.

Mr. Tha recounted that in 1982, when he had just gotten married, both he and his wife were civil servants, and their income was not enough to cover their living expenses. With the belief that “farmers have land”, he decided to apply for a job at an agricultural production unit specializing in sugarcane cultivation. In addition to working hours, he took advantage of every moment to work in production, gradually accumulating experience and capital.

The big turning point came in 1988, when Mr. Tha boldly invested in buying 13 hectares of land and began to apply the motto of "taking short-term profits to support long-term profits" by intercropping rubber with high-yield cassava. With diligence, perseverance and proactive learning of new models, he now owns a total of 160 hectares of agricultural land, including 80 hectares of rubber being exploited, 60 hectares of super-early Thai jackfruit and 20 hectares of green-skinned, pink-fleshed grapefruit.

Not only expanding the area, Mr. Tha also focuses on product quality. Both the jackfruit and grapefruit growing models of his family meet VietGAP standards, have clear origin traceability, apply mechanization, and ensure food safety. In addition, his family also creates jobs for about 60 regular workers and many seasonal workers in the area, with a stable income of more than 70 million VND/person/year.

Not only is he good at economics, Mr. Phan Van Tha is also an active participant in social work, always "loving others as he loves himself". His family has supported 3 heroic Vietnamese mothers throughout their lives, contributed to the comrades' fund, built houses of gratitude, built rural roads, supported poor households and actively responded to new rural construction movements.

In recognition of the tireless efforts of this strong-willed and responsible farmer, Mr. Phan Van Tha was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President at the 5th National Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union (2015-2020 period).

He was also awarded by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty". In 2019, he was honored to be awarded the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer".

Developing the patriotic emulation movement in both breadth and depth

Speaking at the recent 6th conference to commend advanced models of the Tay Ninh Provincial Farmers' Association, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Yen - President of the Provincial Farmers' Association said that over the past 5 years, the Associations at all levels and farmer members in the province have continuously made efforts, innovated and developed the patriotic emulation movement in both breadth and depth.

Hundreds of thousands of households have achieved the title of excellent production and business; many effective production models and high-tech applications have been spread; the spirit of solidarity and affection of Tay Ninh farmers has been clearly demonstrated through the movement of building new rural areas and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, making practical contributions to restructuring the agricultural sector, building new rural areas and improving farmers' lives.

The association at all levels has proactively coordinated in transferring science and technology, supporting members in applying new technology, building production models according to value chains, meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Hundreds of thousands of farming households have achieved the title of good production and business, many effective models, creating jobs, contributing to spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in agriculture.
