The river has been dredged and cleared over a length of 1,204.24m.

Race against time

The Rao Cung River dredging and upgrading project will be implemented from July 2024, with a total investment of more than 44.7 billion VND, invested by the Quang Dien District Construction Investment Project Management Board (old). The scope of investment includes: dredging the riverbed, reinforcing two embankments, building a system of box culverts and circular culverts at intersections with residential roads and upgrading key landslide points.

Recorded at the site in early July 2025, construction units are speeding up progress, machinery and equipment for dredging, pile driving, and concrete pouring are being mobilized to the maximum. The team of workers work in shifts from early morning to late at night, ensuring the progress of construction of key items.

As of June 30, 2025, the river has been dredged and cleared over a length of 1,204m; the reinforcement volume of the two river embankments has been completed at 2,000m. The cross-line sewer and drainage system has also been installed and connected synchronously. The total value of the implemented volume has reached approximately 80% according to the general contract.

One of the weak points that once caused concern for local people was the upstream section of Tan Xuan Lai Bridge, which suffered serious landslides during heavy rains at the end of 2024. This was also overcome by building a stone-gauze embankment combined with a reinforced concrete retaining wall, ensuring the safety of the riverbank and people's travel.

Mr. Phan Huu Luong (83 years old), a resident of La Van Thuong village, said: "The 200m section that was eroded due to heavy rains at the end of 2024 has been firmly reinforced. More than 10 households in the area now feel more secure every time the rainy season comes."

It is expected that the reinforcement and dredging of Rao Cung River will be completed and put into operation by the end of August 2025, promptly serving the work of natural disaster prevention, control, and flood drainage for the area. This is the determination of the investor and the construction unit after the interruption due to unfavorable weather in the first months of the year.

According to irrigation experts, in the rainy season, the Rao Cung River helps reduce pressure on the Bo River's main stream, preventing water from overflowing into residential areas. Conversely, in the dry season, this river plays a role in retaining and supplying water to the irrigation canal system serving agricultural production.

Multi-function

In addition to its value in preventing and combating natural disasters, the Rao Cung River dredging project also creates favorable conditions for road and waterway traffic, serving agricultural production and stabilizing the lives of people in the downstream area. At the same time, it contributes to the overall goal of "building irrigation infrastructure adapted to climate change and sustainable rural development".

"We consider this an urgent project of strategic significance, not simply a temporary solution. Therefore, construction and supervision work is carried out strictly, ensuring technical quality, progress and labor safety. The entire project must be completed in August 2025 and put into operation before the main flood season," the investor representative shared.

With high consensus from local authorities, professional units, construction and people, the dredging and reinforcement project of Rao Cung River is expected to be completed on schedule, handed over and put into operation as soon as possible; ready to serve the work of natural disaster prevention, control, and flood drainage in the upcoming rainy and stormy season.

In the long term, this will be an important link in the synchronous network of irrigation and transport infrastructure in the lower Bo River, contributing to improving response capacity, developing sustainable disasters and agriculture improving the quality of life for local people.
