Commercial activities develop in Thot Not district.
According to the Department of Economics , Infrastructure and Urban Areas of Thot Not District, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the socio-economic development situation in the area has been stable and maintained growth. In particular, industrial and construction activities continued to increase compared to the same period in 2024. Enterprises have stepped up production to complete contracts signed in the first months of 2025. Seafood exports have shown signs of positive recovery in the markets of China, Japan, Korea, EU and Asia; Enterprises have new orders, especially frozen pangasius fillets... Thereby, the industrial and construction production value of the district is estimated to be 27,861.47 billion VND in the first 6 months of the year, reaching 50.24% of the plan, up 12.38% over the same period in 2024. In nearly the first 6 months of 2025, Thot Not district has developed 7 new small-scale industrial establishments and 3 enterprises; bringing the number of industrial and construction production establishments in the district to 1,073 establishments (including 189 enterprises), attracting 16,813 local and neighboring workers.
In particular, the rice milling and processing industry for export is estimated to achieve a milling output of 728,000 tons in the first 6 months of 2025, an increase of 10.4% over the same period in 2024. The rice polishing industry is estimated to achieve over 927,000 tons in the first 6 months, an increase of 12.8% over the same period in 2024. The seafood processing industry with a total output of frozen processed raw fish is estimated to achieve 108,600 tons, an increase of 5.9% over the same period in 2024. In addition, Thot Not district also has developing small-scale industries, such as mechanics, welding, carpentry and interior decoration, small-scale handicraft villages (rice paper and net weaving villages), vermicelli, tofu, bread production, traditional brick production, etc. These are small-scale industries that have contributed a lot to the overall development and growth of the industry and construction sector of the whole district.
According to the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Thot Not District, in the first 6 months of 2025, Thot Not District has newly developed 198 households and 10 enterprises operating in the field of trade and services; bringing the total number of establishments operating in the field of trade and services to 10,003 households (including 333 enterprises), creating about 15,912 local and neighboring laborers. Thereby, the value of trade and service production in the area in the past 6 months is estimated at 15,310.64 billion VND, reaching 50.36% of the plan, up 19.37% over the same period in 2024. Trade and service activities continue to take place vigorously, well serving the consumption needs of people in the first months of 2025; the supply of essential goods in the area is abundant, ensuring the shopping and consumption needs of people. Market stabilization is ensured, goods circulation is stable; there is no shortage of essential goods and price hikes affecting consumers.
In addition to the achieved results, production and business activities in Thot Not district have also encountered many difficulties in the past 6 months. Specifically, costs of production materials, gasoline, logistics costs, and shipping rates have increased 2-3 times compared to the same period in 2024, affecting the production and business efficiency of enterprises. Typically, the source of input materials (rice) for production is not really stable; the situation of bad rice and mixed rice still occurs, affecting the reputation of rice exporting enterprises. Currently, rice exports are facing difficulties in the market due to the decrease in rice import demand from other countries, and the export price of rice has also decreased by an average of 15-30% compared to the same period in 2024; In addition, rice exporting enterprises have not signed many new export contracts... In addition, the common difficulty of the export industry today is still the problem of difficulty in accessing loans from commercial banks, transportation costs, input material costs and labor costs have all increased while the export price of the enterprise's products has not increased in time. For tra fish exporting enterprises, they are also facing difficulties due to the US tax barriers when exporting products to the US market, at the same time, export prices are facing difficulties due to competition with seafood products from other countries...
From the above difficulties, the Economic sector of Thot Not district proposed that the specialized sector from the Central Government and Can Tho City direct credit institutions and commercial banks to concentrate capital sources, not increase interest rates to promptly meet the capital needs of import-export enterprises with reasonable loan limits, loan terms and interest rates; flexibly apply forms of loan guarantees; improve lending processes and procedures to facilitate rice and seafood exporting enterprises to access credit capital, develop production, business and seek markets... In the coming time, the Economic sector and the People's Committees of wards in Thot Not will continue to grasp the situation, advise on creating conditions to promote the development of industrial production activities; regularly coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and other departments of the city to focus on removing difficulties for enterprises in the process of operation. Timely implement the city's directive documents to support enterprises in developing production and business. Coordinate with sectors and localities to implement Directive No. 03/CT-UBND dated January 21, 2025 of the People's Committee of Can Tho City on supporting and facilitating export and import activities in Can Tho City; effectively implement propaganda activities, disseminate information on Free Trade Agreements to the business community in various forms such as conferences, seminars, training, information on electronic information portals; strengthen promotional activities, connect producers - distributors between the city and provinces and cities in the country and internationally, to support consumption markets for businesses; strengthen inspection of conditions for production and trading of safe food for establishments that have signed commitments under the management responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, especially the work of ensuring food safety at markets, supermarkets and convenience stores in the area; Strengthen trade promotion activities, monitor market developments and implement solutions to ensure stable supply of goods, prevent hoarding and speculation that cause instability in the commodity market...
