According to the Times Of Israel, on July 4, Hamas forces said they had given a "positive" response to the latest US proposal on a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage release agreement, affirming their readiness to immediately start direct negotiations with Israel to narrow the "remaining gap".
Hamas' response document has reported been forwarded to Qatari and Egyptian mediators.

"We are fully prepared, with all seriousness, to immediately enter a new round of negotiations on the mechanism for implementing this framework," Hamas said in a statement.
In response, Hamas wants the proposal to state that talks on a permanent ceasefire will continue until an agreement is reached, the source added - something Israel has resisted over fears Hamas will pull out the talks indefinitely.
Hamas also wants to restore full humanitarian aid to Gaza through mechanisms backed by the United Nations and other international aid organizations. Hamas stresses that it will not accept the current system, under which Israel severely limits the amount of UN aid allowed into Gaza.
Hamas' third proposal in response concerns the withdrawal of Israeli troops during the ceasefire. Hamas demands that the Israel Defense Forces withdraw to positions they were in before the previous ceasefire collapsed in March.
It is not yet clear whether Israel and the United States will accept the proposals in Hamas' response.
