Hai Phong: Focus on propaganda to celebrate the 110th anniversary of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh's birthday

(PLVN) - Towards the 110th anniversary of the birth of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (July 1, 1915 - July 1, 2025), all levels, sectors, agencies and localities in Hai Phong City are implementing a widespread propaganda campaign to honor the life and glorious revolutionary career of the excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh - a typical leader and initiator of the country's renovation.

The staunch communist soldier, the innovative leader

Comrade Nguyen Van Linh, whose real name is Nguyen Van Cuc, was born on July 1, 1915 in Giai Pham commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province. At the age of 10, he followed his father to live in Hai Phong, then studied at Buoi School ( Hanoi ). From a young age, he soon revealed the qualities of a patriot and had progressive revolutionary thoughts. At the age of 14, he joined the Communist Youth Organization and just one year later, had the honor of joining the ranks of the Indochinese Communist Party.

In 1930, he was arrested by the French colonialists, sentenced to hard labor and exiled to Con Dao for nearly 10 years. In the imperialist prison, he steadfastly maintained his revolutionary spirit, was a spiritual support and propagandist of communist ideals for many young soldiers.

After the August Revolution in 1945, he successively held important positions in the South such as Secretary of the Saigon - Cho Lon City Party Committee, Secretary of the Southern Regional Party Committee, Secretary of the Central Bureau for the South... During the resistance war against the US to save the country, he was one of the key leaders, contributing to building a strong revolutionary movement in the South, creating the premise for the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country.

After the country's reunification, he continued to assume the important responsibility of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Politburo member, and Secretary of the Party Central Committee. Notably, at the 6th Party Congress (1986), in the context of the country falling into a serious socio-economic crisis, comrade Nguyen Van Linh was elected General Secretary of the Party Central Committee.

With a sharp mind and a spirit of drastic innovation, he and the Politburo and the Party Central Committee led the country to transform the development model, opening a period of comprehensive innovation, contributing to helping Vietnam gradually overcome difficulties, break the subsidy system, and shift to a socialist-oriented market mechanism. He especially emphasized the role of practice, "words go hand in hand with actions", "action for the benefit of the people".

Throughout his revolutionary career, especially as General Secretary, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh always demonstrated his steadfastness in the Party's stance and principles, while being flexible and creative in applying and developing leadership policies to meet practical requirements.

An unforgettable mark during the term of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh was a series of articles signed by the pen name “NVL” published in Nhan Dan newspaper in 1987 with the title “Things to do immediately”. This was a strong voice of opposition, daring to fight against negativity, bureaucracy, and corruption in the state apparatus. The articles stirred public opinion, aroused the spirit of fighting for justice, for the purity of the Party and the State, and received deep sympathy from cadres, party members and the people.

In terms of theory and practice, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh was a person who persistently innovated his thinking, making an important contribution to building a multi-sector economic development policy, expanding foreign relations, and promoting the international integration process. For him, innovation was an inevitable requirement of the Vietnamese revolution, but it must never deviate from principles, must always be closely linked to the interests of the people, and must firmly adhere to the goals of national independence and socialism.

Hai Phong promotes propaganda and education for the young generation

Over the three decades since comrade Nguyen Van Linh initiated the renovation process, our country has achieved great, comprehensive and historic achievements. From a country on the brink of crisis, Vietnam has risen to become a large-scale economy in the region, maintaining a stable growth rate and integrating deeply into the global economy.

In that success, there is a strong mark from the innovative thinking and the spirit of decisive action, daring to take responsibility, of which General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh was the leader. His successors continue to inherit and develop the innovative path that he initiated, bringing Vietnam to great strides on the path of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

Comrade Nguyen Van Linh passed away in 1998, leaving behind a shining example of revolutionary ethics, a working style close to the people, close to the grassroots, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people. The Party and State posthumously awarded him the Gold Star Order - the most noble award to recognize the great contributions and contributions of the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh.

Implementing the direction of the Central Propaganda Department and Hai Phong City Party Committee, agencies, units and localities in the city are promoting extensive propaganda in many diverse and flexible forms about the life and revolutionary career of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh.

The focus is on promoting the great contributions in the two resistance wars, the key role of comrade in the cause of innovation, industrialization and modernization of the country, thereby educating cadres, party members, especially the young generation to learn and follow the spirit of "for the country, for the people", daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility for the common development.

In addition, Hai Phong City also combined propaganda about outstanding achievements after 40 years of renovation under the leadership of the Party, affirming the core values ​​of innovation ideology, the spirit of practical action, taking the people as the center, this is the ideological foundation laid by comrade Nguyen Van Linh as a solid foundation for the development path of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Former General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh was the one who initiated and persistently promoted the country's renewal policy from the 6th Congress (1986), clearly affirming the mindset of "dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility", thereby leading the country out of the socio-economic crisis, opening a new period of development: developing a socialist-oriented market economy, opening up to international integration and industrializing and modernizing the country.

Looking back at his life and career, we can clearly see the image of a leader who had both strategic vision and was close to the people, for the people; possessing all the noble revolutionary moral qualities: “Diligence, thrift, integrity, uprightness, impartiality”.
