FedEx Corporation, in collaboration with Junior Achievement (JA), has just announced the results of the Asia -Pacific finals of the FedEx/JA ITC 2025 International Trade Challenge, held in Singapore.
This year's competition attracted more than 4,700 students from nine countries and territories, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The six best contestants out of 54 finalists were honored, including two representatives from Vietnam: Nguyen Ngoc Khanh, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ba Ria-Vung Tau) and Phan Lan Anh, Olympia High School ( Hanoi ).
Accordingly, the 54 students participating in the regional finals in Singapore were tasked with developing a market entry strategy for an environmentally friendly product that recycles textile waste into sustainable consumer products, targeting the target market of France. In the context of consumers increasingly concerned about environmental impact and the role of businesses becoming more important in creating a sustainable future, this topic becomes especially meaningful and topical.
Contestants from different countries were paired into teams of two to encourage cross-cultural exchange. Each team then pitched their ideas to a panel of judges comprising leading Singaporean entrepreneurs and business owners.
The first prize went to the Spicy Noodles team, consisting of Jamie Smith from Korea and Nguyen Ngoc Khanh from Vietnam. The two contestants surprised the judges with their creative idea of building a brand that recycles textile waste into unique, environmentally friendly embroidery works.
The two runners-up were Team Innovement with Janelle Anika S.Tan from the Philippines and Royden So from Hong Kong with their initiative to develop smart wall panels from textile waste.
ReTex team with Panasarn Traithavil from Thailand and Phan Lan Anh from Vietnam proposed a solution to install solar panels for households.
The two first-place winners, Jamie Smith (Korea) and Nguyen Ngoc Khanh (Vietnam), shared: “It was a great experience to compete with talented friends from across the region. The competition pushed us to step out of textbook theory and tackle real-world problems, where success in international trade requires not only business skills but also cultural understanding and genuine collaboration. This experience has given us the confidence to pursue start-up projects that can create positive impacts across borders.”
The FedEx/JA ITC International Trade Challenge is co-organized by FedEx and JA Asia Pacific (a member of JA Worldwide). Over the past 19 years, more than 50,000 students in the Asia- Pacific region have been exposed to knowledge and practices of business, economics and international trade through a program that combines academic study and practical teamwork. In addition, to support young entrepreneurs, in addition to the JA ITC program, FedEx also launched the Small Business Grant Contest (SBGC) to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region.
