According to the Internet report, Vietnam Internet resources 2024 of Vietnam Internet Center - VNNIC, domain names are the starting point for most activities and services on the Internet. Since April 1994, the Vietnamese national domain name ".vn" has officially connected to the global system, marking the brand and sovereignty of Vietnam on the world Internet map.
With the values of "Identification - Trust - Security", the ".vn" domain name not only represents the national identity in cyberspace, but also serves as a bridge between businesses - customers, Government - citizens. Thereby, expanding opportunities, enhancing interactions in all areas of social life.
Up to now, nearly 70,000 domain names in the new domain name space such as 'id.vn', 'io.vn', 'ai.vn', 'biz.vn' have been registered and used, contributing to maximizing the value of the Vietnamese national domain name '.vn' in the digital environment.
After 30 years of the ".vn" domain name officially appearing, demonstrating national sovereignty in cyberspace, the number of ".vn" domain names has reached more than 630,000, ranking second in ASEAN, 10th in the Asia- Pacific region and 40th globally, up 6 places compared to the end of 2020.
Notably, according to statistics, by the end of November 2024, there were 14 provinces and centrally-run cities nationwide with the number of ".vn" domain names exceeding 5,000. Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai continued to be the localities with the highest number of ".vn" domain names maintained nationwide.
Decree No. 147/2024/ND-CP of the Government on management, provision and use of internet services and online information has a notable new provision on the mechanism for exemption and reduction of registration fees. This contributes to encouraging and supporting people and businesses to have an online presence and build their brands on the internet with the national domain name ".vn".
Specifically, Vietnamese citizens from 18 to 23 years old are given priority and support in registering to use the domain name ".id.vn"; including exemption or reduction of registration fees and exemption or reduction of maintenance fees for using the domain name ".vn" within a specific period according to the provisions of the law on fees and charges.
Meanwhile, enterprises and business households with business registration certificates in accordance with the law are given priority and support in registering to use the domain name ".biz.vn", including: Exemption or reduction of fees for registering to use the domain name ".vn"; exemption or reduction of fees for maintaining the use of the domain name ".vn" within a specific period of time in accordance with the law on fees and charges.
In 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications also approved and launched the "Program to promote and support people, businesses, and business households to have a reliable and safe online presence with digital services using the national domain name ".vn" in provinces and cities across the country for the period 2024 - 2025".
The program aims to promote the popularization of the national domain name ".vn", realizing the goal of reaching at least 1 million ".vn" domain names by 2025, contributing to accelerating the digital transformation process, developing digital government, digital economy and digital society of the country.
