Application of advanced technology in pig breeding in Thai Nguyen
According to information from the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Thai Nguyen province has implemented a modern livestock model, focusing on crossbreeding breeding and commercial pig breeds. This model uses VCN15 (Landrace) and VCN16 (Yorkshire) sows crossed with Duroc boars to improve product quality.
In the context of the livestock industry facing many challenges such as epidemics, high production costs and strict market requirements on quality and food safety, the application of technology in livestock farming is becoming an inevitable trend.
In Thai Nguyen, the project "Application of scientific and technological advances in breeding breeding pigs and commercial pigs" implemented by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Center for Plant, Animal and Aquatic Breeding has achieved positive results. The project used two sow breeds VCN15 (Landrace) and VCN16 (Yorkshire) to create parent sow lines PS1, PS2 with outstanding reproductive ability, good adaptability and easy to raise. When mated with Duroc boars - outstanding for their fast growth rate, high feed conversion efficiency, delicious meat quality and high lean meat ratio - they created a herd of F1 commercial pigs.
These F1 hybrids have beautiful appearance, strong skeleton, good weight gain ability, high resistance and are suitable for breeding conditions in mountainous and midland areas such as Thai Nguyen. The application of modern technology in breeding has contributed to improving economic efficiency and meeting the increasing demand of the market.
