Rubber prices are up slightly, but the industry outlook remains uncertain. Michelin, the leading tire group, forecasts a 2–3% decline in global production in 2025, with the passenger car and light truck markets in the West continuing to struggle. However, the Chinese market is expected to grow steadily, although US-China trade tensions could have a long-term impact.
The bright spot is increased demand for tires for the mining industry, which partly offsets the decline in the North American truck market, which is expected to recover only in 2026. To optimize costs, Michelin has closed a factory in France, expected to save 150 million euros in profits this year.
