Chuong Thien used to be a province, established by the Saigon puppet regime on December 24, 1960. The enemy considered Chuong Thien a remote defense line to protect the headquarters of Tactical Zone IV, located in Can Tho City. At the same time, the Chuong Thien area was also a shield to prevent our main force from attacking, and a springboard to attack the U Minh revolutionary base.
Can Tho and Hau Giang provinces previously built a memorial site for the Chuong Thien Victory event in Vinh Vien commune and Vi Tan ward today. After the Paris Agreement in 1973 was signed, the Saigon puppet government and the US imperialists still harbored the intention of destroying the Southern revolution, eliminating the liberated areas, carrying out pacification and encroachment plans... Faced with that situation, we had preparations to deal with it. From January to November 1973, our army and people steadfastly held their ground, fought bravely, and held their ground. At the end of 1973, the main force of Military Region 9 and the army and people of Can Tho, along with the provinces of Soc Trang and Rach Gia, defeated 75 enemy battalions that intended to pacify and encroach on Chuong Thien - Long My, Vi Thanh, liberating many important areas... The enemy's plan to pacify Chuong Thien was a complete failure.
