Opening of water puppetry class, reviving heritage vitality in Vinh Bao

The organization of water puppetry training classes aims to build a large-scale "water puppetry guild" model, connecting with local schools to arouse the passion for art in the young generation.

On the morning of August 24, the City Cooperative Union held the opening ceremony of the 2025 water puppetry class at the traditional craft village of making animal breeds in Nhan Muc village (Vinh Bao commune).

Representative of the City Cooperative Union leadership delivered the opening speech of the vocational training class.

This activity aims to concretize Plan No. 198 of the City People's Committee on training human resources for craft villages and traditional occupations in the period of 2023 - 2025 and Plan No. 140 of the City Cooperative Union on training human resources in 2025.

The class took place in August and September, consisting of 2 classes, each with 25 students, workers, and craftsmen from craft villages, important factors in the process of preserving and developing heritage.

Nhan Hoa water puppetry (Nhan Muc village, Vinh Bao commune) was born hundreds of years ago, participated in many festivals, won many gold and silver awards and toured many places.

The folk performing art of Nhan Hoa water puppetry has also been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, becoming the pride of local people and the city.

Currently, Nhan Hoa water puppetry troupe has only more than 10 artisans left, while the cost of making and preserving puppets and the artisans' lives are still difficult.

The organization of this training course aims to build a large-scale “water puppetry troupe” model, connecting with local schools to arouse the passion for art in the young generation. Thereby, gradually turning Nhan Hoa water puppetry into a unique tourism product, contributing to the formation of the city’s water puppetry cultural tourism center.

The course lasts for 28 days, and students are expected to master basic skills related to water puppetry, puppet making techniques, water puppet performance skills, and on-site practice.
