Supporting disadvantaged students to go to school

The first day of school is approaching. For families with limited financial resources, this is the time when parents are struggling to prepare their children for the new school year. Sympathizing and sharing, the Women's Union at all levels in the city have been organizing many practical and meaningful activities to care for and support the children of members and women in difficult circumstances to go to school.

Phuoc Thoi Ward Women's Union and philanthropists presented gifts to encourage students in difficult circumstances before the new school year 2025-2026.

The gift-giving ceremony for students who have overcome difficulties and studied well, organized by the Women's Union of Phuoc Thoi Ward in Binh Thuan area, took place in a warm atmosphere with the participation of the Women's Union of the ward, the women's union of the area, benefactors and 80 students. According to Ms. Pham Bach Tuyet, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the ward, each gift includes: leather bag, notebook, school supplies worth 250,000 VND, mobilized by the association from the community.

Cherishing the gift he just received, Huynh Pham Duy Khang in Binh Thuan area, emotionally shared: "My mother's health is poor and she cannot work, and my father works as a construction worker with an unstable income. This year I am going to 8th grade. With this gift, my parents will worry less, and I will have more motivation to overcome difficulties and study well."

Nguyen Thien An's family, who lives in Binh Thuan, is also very poor. This year, Thien An is in 8th grade, and her younger sister is in elementary school. A few months ago, Thien An's grandmother suffered a stroke, and her mother had to take care of her, so she could not go to work. The family's economy mainly depends on her father's profit from selling scrap. Thien An confided: "I thank you, uncles and aunts, for giving me a leather bag and school supplies. When I get home, I will share the gifts with my younger sister, so that we both have the motivation to study and make progress."

The Women's Union of Thoi Long Ward has also coordinated to present gifts and scholarships to students in difficult circumstances in the area. Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thao, President of the Women's Union of Thoi Long Ward, informed: "Before the new school year, the Women's Union of the ward mobilized 20 scholarships, worth a total of 20 million VND, to give to students in difficult circumstances, in order to create conditions for them to study well". Ms. Tran Thi Be Ba in Long Hoa area, brought her granddaughter, Ngo Thi My Han, to receive the gift, and said: "My family is a near-poor household, my husband and I mainly work for a living. My Han's parents have separated and have their own lives. Preparing for the new school year but I haven't bought anything for my grandchild, so I feel very sad. This gift is very meaningful, it helps my family to worry less, and my grandchild goes to school more neatly".

In order to promptly support students in difficult circumstances to go to school, from the beginning of July 2025, many associations sent open letters to departments, branches, businesses, and philanthropists to mobilize scholarships and learning tools. The Women's Unions of wards and branches have built and maintained many practical models of promoting learning and talent. Typical examples include the model of mobilizing cadres and members to collect scrap and sell it to raise funds for scholarships to support children of members in difficult circumstances built by the Women's Union of Thoi Long ward; the Hoa hoc tro model - mobilizing support for bicycles and scholarships for children of members on the occasion of the new school year of the Women's Union of Cai Rang ward; the model of Turning waste into health insurance of the Women's Union of Ninh Kieu ward, etc.

In addition, the Women's Unions of communes and wards have directed women's associations to give priority to female members to receive interest-free revolving capital to take care of their children during the school year. Receiving a revolving capital of 5 million VND, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy in Long Thanh area, Thoi Long ward, bought clothes and school supplies for her two children. Ms. Thuy said: "The family has no land for production, my husband and I both do small business and do weaving and assembling to make a living. My husband and I have two children in high school. The revolving capital helps me to reduce some of the worries about the new school year's expenses."

In addition to caring and supporting activities, the Women's Union of communes and wards assigns cadres to attend gift and scholarship awarding ceremonies in the areas... Thereby, promptly encouraging and supporting students in difficult circumstances on the path to pursuing their dreams.
