On August 22, 2025, on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the tradition of the Postal, Science and Technology sector, the working delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Minister Nguyen Manh Hung had a meeting with retired cadres in the Central Highlands region.
Gratitude and continuing tradition
At the meeting, many veteran cadres expressed their emotions when recalling the glorious tradition and sent their thoughts and recommendations to the Ministry's leaders and future generations.
Mr. Pham Long Tran, former Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT, former Director of Quang Nam Post Office, was moved to share that the warm atmosphere in today's meeting is a great source of encouragement for the previous generation. According to him, traditional telecommunications enterprises have now changed, giving way to enterprises providing services based on core technology, digital technology, and 5G. But the important thing is that the core values of the industry are still preserved, inherited, and developed. Today's enterprises have truly become the 'infrastructure of infrastructure', the foundation for the country's development.
Mr. Ho The, former Director of Quang Nam - Da Nang Post Office, now 82 years old, emotionally recalled the milestone 4 years ago, when he proposed to recognize the Quang Nam - Da Nang Postal Service Memorial as a historical relic and build a memorial stele. Up to now, only the memorial stele is ready for inauguration. He sincerely thanked Minister Nguyen Manh Hung for his attention and direction to make the wishes of the previous generation come true.
Mr. Huynh Phuoc, former Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang shared his pride when witnessing the achievements of science and technology that have directly served life and society. From biotechnology in agriculture - forestry - fishery, gene technology in individual identification and martyr identification, to modern medical advances such as organ transplantation and in vitro fertilization. He also highly appreciated the logo of the science and technology sector with its strong endogenous energy source, expressing the country's creative aspirations.
Connecting tradition - creating the future
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung expressed his deep gratitude to the generations of retired cadres, recognizing the great contributions of previous generations to the postal sector, science and technology. The Minister affirmed that today's generation will continue to inherit and promote that glorious tradition.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the key role of the strategic trio: Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, and affirmed that these are core areas associated with labor productivity, competitiveness, security - defense and national governance.
The Minister said that over 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has made many remarkable strides. From a country with food shortages, Vietnam has now become an agricultural export powerhouse thanks to the application of science and technology. In telecommunications and digital technology, Vietnam has modernized rapidly, deploying mobile and Internet early, to date 99.8% of the population has mobile coverage, higher than many developed countries.
The 2025-2030 term is the first term of the Ministry of Science and Technology to consolidate the implementation of Resolution 57 of the Politburo on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation and digital transformation. This is a historic turning point, placing three strategic areas in the same "common house", shouldering a key mission to the nation.
Regarding management, the Minister said that there has been innovation, shifting from input management to output management. Accordingly, research is only considered satisfactory when it is commercialized and creates value many times higher than the investment capital, in which at least 30% of the profits return to the research group. At the same time, the Party and State set a goal for Vietnam to master strategic technology to maintain a long-term competitive advantage.
The Minister also pointed out three key areas, which are rarely mentioned but are of vital importance: Intellectual property, quality measurement standards and nuclear energy. These are pillars that need strong investment to ensure Vietnam's position in the future.
The meeting ended in an emotional and warm atmosphere. According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung: "In the 'genes' of the unified Ministry today is the crystallization of the creative intelligence of the science and technology sector and the spirit of dedication and solidarity of the post and telecommunications sector. This is a balanced complement, creating a combined strength."
The Minister expressed his deep gratitude to previous generations of officials, and affirmed that the great mission of today's generation is: Not only mastering technology but also creating technology; not only receiving knowledge but also producing knowledge; not only building digital infrastructure but also creating a safe, healthy and trustworthy cyberspace.
During the meeting, the Minister presented gifts and expressed gratitude to previous generations.
