Although the domestic coffee market has experienced two consecutive slight increases, experts assess that this is only a technical recovery signal after a long decline. Compared to the beginning of last week, domestic coffee prices have increased by VND2,900 - 3,200/kg, but are still far from the peak in April 2025 when prices reached VND129,300 - 130,200/kg.
In the medium term, July is expected to be the time when the coffee market enters a period of accumulation and slow recovery. Supporting factors include increased demand from major markets such as China, India and South Korea, along with the possibility of the US Federal Reserve (FED) maintaining stable interest rates. If domestic processing and exporting enterprises sign large FOB orders in the first week of the month, this will be an important driving force to help domestic coffee prices approach the 95,000 VND/kg mark.

In a conversation with Reuters last week, experts said that Brazil’s 2025 arabica coffee harvest is underway in major regions, but coffee cherries have been reported to fall in some areas. The better production forecasts, combined with a drop in demand, are putting downward pressure on coffee prices.
According to Cooxupe, the leading coffee cooperative in the world’s largest coffee exporter, more than 24% of the expected output has been harvested so far. However, Mario Ferraz de Araujo, the cooperative’s technical development director, said many ripe coffee cherries have fallen to the ground in some areas, which could negatively affect the quality of the product. He also noted that early-flowering trees are the most affected.
Jonas Ferraresso, a coffee agronomist and adviser to Brazilian farmers, said that harvest is progressing well in some areas. However, some farmers are still waiting for late-maturing varieties to start harvesting. He also noted that cherries are falling off the tree, with many cherries lying on the ground for 40 to 60 days. With recent rains and high soil moisture, there is a high risk that these cherries will germinate before they can be picked, rendering them worthless.
In addition, some areas in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná have seen light to moderate frost, Ferraresso said. However, it will take several more days to assess the exact extent of the damage. Videos shared by farmers in southern Minas Gerais state show the leaves of some coffee plants covered in frost.
Overall, Arabica coffee prices have fallen 17% in the past three months on expectations of higher production and lower demand, said Carlos Mera, head of agricultural commodity research at Rabobank. He also stressed that while the 2025 harvest is fast approaching, farmers’ decisions to sell still depend on future weather factors, such as the risk of frost or hot, dry weather that could affect the next flowering.
