On the afternoon of April 9, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Archbishop and Foreign Minister of the Vatican Paul Richard Gallagher during his visit to Vietnam.
Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher to Vietnam for the first time in his capacity as Foreign Minister of the Vatican. Mr. Son also highly appreciated and expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Catholic community would continue to promote the good moral values of Catholicism in social life, actively participate in patriotic emulation movements, health,education , vocational training, social security, poverty reduction activities, etc. Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides continue to effectively maintain high-level exchanges and contacts and dialogue mechanisms; promote the connecting role of the Permanent Representative of the Holy See in Vietnam and affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with relevant authorities, will create conditions for the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to successfully fulfill its mission, contributing to the further development of the Vietnam - Holy See relationship in the coming time.

Archbishop and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Holy See Paul Richard Gallagher was pleased to witness the development of the Catholic Church in Vietnam, actively participating in social activities, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, and believed that the Catholic community in Vietnam will make more contributions to the development of Vietnam. Minister Paul Richard Gallagher agreed to promote contacts, exchanges, and enhance bilateral cooperation through the Vietnam - Vatican Joint Working Group mechanism as well as in multilateral and international forums. The Archbishop and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Holy See hoped that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agencies and localities of Vietnam would continue to create favorable conditions for the activities of the Holy See Resident Representative and expressed his belief that bilateral relations would continue to make important strides.
