Martyr Phan Thanh was born in 1942, a native of Binh Dan commune (now Kim Thanh commune, Hai Duong , Hai Phong city). In April 1962, comrade Phan Thanh enthusiastically joined the army, participating in the resistance war against the US to save the country. He was assigned to Battalion 1, Regiment 2, Division 3 Sao Vang under Military Region 5, with the rank of Second Lieutenant, Deputy Political Commissar of the Company. Fighting bravely, he sacrificed himself on May 20, 1967 in Pho Thuan commune, Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province. The remains of martyr Phan Thanh were gathered at the commune martyr cemetery, built, embellished and worshiped by the Party Committee, government and people of Pho Thuan commune.

Martyr Phan Thanh is one of two martyrs of Vietnamese Heroic Mother Pham Thi Ty.

Because the information on the martyr's tombstone does not match the records (Phan Thanh/Phan Van Thanh), the martyr's family has encountered many difficulties in searching for and bringing the martyr's remains back to their hometown to worship, burn incense, and take care of the grave.

The joy of finding the martyrs' remains was multiplied when the martyrs' families received support in moving the martyrs' remains by free train, bringing them back to the martyrs' cemetery in their hometown in Kim Thanh, Hai Duong ( Hai Phong ).

From July 14 to 16, relatives of martyrs went to Pho Thuan Martyrs Cemetery, Duc Pho, Quang Ngai province, and were supported by members of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, the Central Office, and the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Ngai province to carry out procedures to collect and move the martyrs' remains, and put them on a ship to the North.

At Hanoi Railway Station on July 17, the ceremony to receive the remains of martyrs was held solemnly and warmly. Directly accompanying the family members to receive the remains of martyrs from the train and put them into the car carrying the remains of martyrs at Hanoi Railway Station, Lieutenant General Hoang Khanh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, said: In our country, in 34 provinces and cities, most communes and wards have martyr cemeteries. Currently, over 200,000 remains of martyrs have not been found and gathered; over 300,000 martyrs gathered in cemeteries in localities have not yet been identified. Therefore, all levels, branches and members of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs have been joining hands and hearts every day, acting as an “extended arm” for state management agencies, as well as directly supporting relatives of martyrs’ families in searching for remains and moving martyrs’ remains back to their hometowns so that families can conveniently burn incense and take care of their graves. Thereby, contributing to the good implementation of the work of gratitude and repayment.
