Currently, the entire team and the coaching staff are actively preparing professionally and with the best force to achieve the highest results at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) taking place at the end of this year in Thailand.

Thorough professional preparation
At the 2025 Asian Muay Thai Championship, which took place from June 20 to 26 in Thai Nguyen , the Vietnamese Muay Thai team performed excellently, winning a total of 46 medals including 14 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals to take first place overall. The next positions belong to the UAE team in second place with a total of 16 medals, including 8 gold medals; third place went to Kazakhstan with 20 medals, including 7 gold medals.
Notably, among the gold medals of the Vietnamese delegation was the gold medal of boxer Huynh Ha Huu Hieu. In the final of the women's 45kg weight class, Huynh Ha Huu Hieu excellently defeated his opponent Klinpaka Somsri - a boxer from Thailand, the homeland of Muay Thai. Huu Hieu is currently the reigning world champion and she continues to affirm her class in the regional arena.
Evaluating the professional quality, head coach of the Vietnamese Muay Thai team Duong Ngoc Hai commented that looking at the competition results of national athletes such as Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (45kg women), Hoang Thi Thu, Ha Thi Thuy (71kg women), Huynh Hoang Phi (54kg men), Ngo Thi Thu Phuong (63.5kg women) ... still maintain their form. Besides, young athletes such as Tran Thi Anh Tuyet (over 75kg women), Nguyen Thi Phuong Hau (60kg women), Nguyen Thi Chieu (57kg women), Bui Hai Linh (51kg women), Nguyen Hoang Minh (57kg men) ... are qualified enough to succeed their seniors and shoulder the responsibility of winning medals in upcoming international tournaments.
"The team currently has a harmonious combination of experienced and young players. This is a favorable condition for Vietnamese Muay to maintain its position and aim for major milestones such as the SEA Games or ASIAD in the near future," coach Duong Ngoc Hai shared.
According to Head of Muay Thai (Vietnam Sports Department - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Tu Le Na, although the results at the Asian Championship are very encouraging, the whole team cannot be complacent. There are less than 6 months left until the 33rd SEA Games - this is a very important and highly competitive arena, especially when Muay Thai is the traditional sport of the host country Thailand.
"Opponents like Thailand, Kazakhstan, UAE... are all preparing carefully. If they cannot maintain a spirit of learning and high determination, Vietnamese muay will face many difficulties in protecting their achievements and continuing to make their mark," Ms. Tu Le Na emphasized.
Determined to achieve the goal at SEA Games 33
Head of the Muay Department (Vietnam Sports Administration - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Tu Le Na said that at the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnamese Muay aims to win 1 to 2 gold medals. Currently, the gold hope of Vietnamese Muay at the 33rd SEA Games is still placed on the fighters Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (45kg), Hoang Khanh Mai (48kg), Nguyen Thi Chieu (57kg female), Nguyen Thi Phuong Hau (57kg female), Duong Duc Bao (48kg male)...
In addition, the coaching board of the Vietnam Muay team hopes that fighters Ly Dieu Phuoc (51kg men), Hoa Van Thanh (81kg men), Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (60kg women)... can create a breakthrough and win a gold medal for the Vietnam Muay team. These fighters reached the finals of the recent Asian tournament and only stopped with a silver medal, so they have more motivation to turn it into gold at the SEA Games.
Head coach of the Vietnam Muay Thai team, Duong Ngoc Hai, said that the Vietnam Muay Thai team is currently training at two locations, the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. From now until August 2025, due to the limited international competition schedule, the entire team will focus on maintaining physical strength and improving domestic expertise. It is expected that in August, the team will participate in the World Youth Championship in the UAE, then compete in the National Championship in September. These are two important milestones for the Coaching Board to review and evaluate the force.
According to Hoang Quoc Vinh, Head of the High Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Sports Administration), the Vietnam Sports Administration will create all conditions in terms of facilities, nutrition, and specialized equipment for athletes to practice and compete. At the same time, the Administration will coordinate with the Vietnam Muay Federation to develop a plan to find funding sources, organize more international training and competitions in 2025 and the following period.
Muay Thai movement in localities has also been developed, with many youth tournaments being held regularly, contributing to early talent discovery, creating a solid source of successors. In addition, the team of coaches and referees have also been trained to improve, ensuring that they keep up with the modern trends of international Muay Thai.
Hopefully, with thorough preparation, comprehensive support from the sports industry and the high determination of the team, Vietnamese Muay will continue to affirm its position and successfully complete its goals at the 33rd SEA Games - 2025 in Thailand.
