TPO – Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh stated that currently, the revenue of Hanoi’s craft villages reaches about 1 billion USD, accounting for 1/50 of the value of Hanoi’s production; creating jobs for hundreds of thousands of workers in rural areas.

On the morning of July 5, the Hanoi People's Committee held a dialogue to remove difficulties and promote production and business for enterprises, cooperatives, and production households in craft villages in the city.

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, there are currently 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts in the area, including 331 craft villages, traditional crafts and recognized traditional craft villages. The revenue of craft villages is estimated at over 24,000 billion VND/year.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Quang Quyen, during the preparation process for the dialogue conference, the city's functional agencies received, synthesized, and screened more than 50 opinions and recommendations from 59 enterprises, cooperatives, and production entities, focusing on 3 groups of issues: Planning, infrastructure, tourism and craft village environment; mechanisms and policies to support craft villages; science and technology, trade promotion, branding, and raw material regional linkage.

At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong, representative of Hien Luong Bamboo and Rattan Export Company Limited (Phu Tuc Commune, Phu Xuyen District) expressed her wish that the city would remove difficulties, especially in terms of production premises; support trade promotion abroad, especially the Hong Kong market (China); and create conditions to access preferential loans.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of Phu Thanh Phat Company Limited (Van Tu Commune, Phu Xuyen District) raised the issue that the current labor force in craft villages are mainly elderly people and farmers, with production based on the "father-to-son" nature, and have not received proper training.

“I propose that the city support vocational training programs to improve techniques and skills, and encourage people to participate in learning, producing, and doing traditional crafts,” Mr. Thanh said.
