Recently, the consumer market nationwide has witnessed a series of cases of fake cooking oil being discovered, causing public shock. The most recent case was in Hung Yen , when Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited was discovered using raw materials for livestock to produce cooking oil for humans under the Ofood brand.
Previously, many recycled cooking oil products, oils of unknown origin, and oils with fake labels of major brands were exposed.

The continuous information about fake cooking oil cases being discovered has made consumers confused and wary of many products being sold on the market. That concern not only changes consumer habits but also directly affects genuine food production facilities, especially small and medium-sized units such as OCOP cooking oil facilities in Ha Tinh .
Facing that wave, many OCOP cooking oil production facilities in Ha Tinh have proactively affirmed their reputation with transparency in every processing step, from raw materials to production processes. In the context of consumers increasingly interested in traditional products, with clear origins, ensuring food hygiene and safety, local peanut oil and sesame oil have become the priority choice.
At Mai Tinh peanut and sesame oil production facility (Bui La Nhan commune, Duc Tho district), the number of orders during this period has nearly doubled compared to before. Customers not only come from the province but also from southern provinces such as Lam Dong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City ...

“Since the incident of animal cooking oil being sold on the market broke out, people have been worried and come to our facility to buy pure oil. To make one liter of peanut oil, we need about 3kg of peanut shells or 2kg of peanut kernels, pressed and filtered using a modern machinery system, without mixing or using additives. The current selling price is 120,000 VND/liter - this is the price based on raw materials purchased directly from farmers. If we had to get raw materials through traders, the oil price would be higher. However, customers still accept it because they prioritize health above all else,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai - owner of Mai Tinh peanut and sesame oil production facility.
It is known that Ha Tinh currently has 3 peanut oil and sesame oil production facilities recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, including: Mai Tinh peanut oil and sesame oil (Bui La Nhan commune, Duc Tho); Mai Loi peanut oil (Quang Vinh commune, Duc Tho); Anh Tho peanut oil (Hoa Lac commune, Duc Tho). At these facilities, recently, there has been a significant increase in product consumption. People's trust in traditional products, made by local people, is an important driving force for the facilities to overcome difficulties.

From the consumer perspective, many people have switched to pure peanut oil and sesame oil after warnings about fake food. Ms. Thai Thi Tuyet (Dau Lieu ward, Hong Linh town) shared: “I used to buy industrial cooking oil because it was convenient and cheap. But after the fake cooking oil incident was discovered, I felt scared. Since then, I have switched to using hand-pressed peanut oil, bought from reputable establishments. Although the price is higher, I feel secure because the oil is naturally fragrant and does not smell like some previous types.”
Also changing his consumption habits after information about poor quality products, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong (Tan Lam Huong commune, Ha Tinh city) expressed his trust in local products: "OCOP peanut oil has a clear origin, and I know the production process, so I feel very secure. Since switching to this type, the whole family is satisfied because the food tastes better and feels safe."
The change in consumer habits has shown a positive signal when people are no longer passive in the face of concerns about dirty food but proactively seek out safe products with clear origins. However, to make truly correct and effective choices, consumers also need specific guidance from professional agencies.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Le Tung Duong - Deputy Head of the Department of Rural Development and Quality Management (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh) recommended: “People should proactively research and choose products with clear origins, especially OCOP products that have been certified and have traceability stamps. Consumers can check information by scanning the code on the product or directly accessing the province's electronic information portal for traceability at https://checkvn.hatinh.gov.vn. At the same time, consumers should not share unverified information on social networks, to avoid causing public confusion and affecting genuine production facilities”.
Recommendations from professional agencies are also important reminders in the current context of “mixed gold and copper”. Choosing the right product and the right origin is not only a responsibility for your own health but also contributes to protecting the reputation of transparent and decent businesses.
