Newcastle's controversial advertising video . |
On June 30, the Magpies unveiled their third kit, inspired by the 1997/98 away kit. The promotional video posted on social media features singer Sam Fender, a famous artist from the North East of England and a die-hard Newcastle fan.
However, shortly after its release, the clip was taken down because it featured a sensitive flag. Newcastle then edited and removed the image and reposted a new version. The Northern Echo reported that the flag was brought to the filming at the Tyneside Irish Centre by a fan and was not prepared by the club or sponsor adidas.
A Newcastle spokesperson told The Northern Echo : "We were made aware of a flag in the new kit launch video that may have caused some offence. We immediately removed the video, edited the content and ensured it did not appear in future media. Newcastle United sincerely apologises if this has caused any offence to anyone."
Ignoring the unexpected incident, Peter Silverstone - Newcastle's Commercial Director, is proud of the new shirt design: "The third kit is a bold combination of past and present, honoring the club's history and opening up a promising path ahead. Notably, for every adult shirt sold directly from the club, the Newcastle charity will receive a contribution, thereby spreading community values both on and off the pitch."
Newcastle are well prepared for their return to the UEFA Champions League next season. For the second time in three years, the Magpies will be participating in Europe's most prestigious tournament. The club hopes the new shirt will become a symbol connecting generations of fans around the world .
