On June 24, the British Government announced that it will invest 1 billion pounds (equivalent to 1.35 billion USD) to build a National Biosecurity Center (NBC) to enhance the capacity to prevent and respond to future pandemics.

The new facility is expected to be operational in the 2033-34 financial year and will be located in Surrey, south-west London – home to existing animal health research laboratories with high biosafety standards.

It will be part of an existing network of laboratories that play a key role in the early detection of dangerous animal diseases and other biological threats.

The goal is to enhance early warning capabilities, coordinate responses and reduce risks from biological threats to public health and national security./.
