British fighter jets intercept 6 Russian planes near NATO border?

The British Ministry of Defense announced the above move of the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets in a statement, according to TASS news agency this morning, June 10.

The Eurofighter Typhoons were initially scrambled to intercept two Russian transport aircraft, an An-12 and an An-72, flying towards Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave in the Baltic. The British fighters were then tasked with intercepting two Russian Tu-22M bombers and two Su-30SM fighters, which were also flying over the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea.

During various stages of the mission, British fighters were joined by Finnish F-18s and Swedish Gripen aircraft, as well as Portuguese and Romanian F-16s.

The British Ministry of Defense accused the Russian crews of failing to comply with international rules "by failing to communicate with the relevant Flight Information Regions." In the statement, the British Ministry of Defense also said that Russia had been actively monitoring NATO exercises in the Baltic Sea.

Earlier, on June 8, British and Swedish fighter jets took off to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, along with a Su-27 fighter jet. The British Ministry of Defense said that the Russian pilots also did not contact the relevant Flight Information Region, but remained in international airspace and flew professionally.

There is currently no information about Russia's reaction to the above statement of the British Ministry of Defense. The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly affirmed that all aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces carry out flights in strict compliance with international regulations, according to TASS.
