Police said the cause was a debt dispute and one of the six victims was the one who poisoned the other five.

Thai police have also identified the seventh person, who is believed to have booked a room with the six victims. Accordingly, this person left Thailand and returned to Vietnam on July 10.

Previously, on the evening of July 16, initial investigation results showed that the victims' rooms were locked from the inside and there were no signs of anyone breaking into the room to kill them.

After moving the victims' bodies to a nearby hospital, Thai police also transferred the luggage of the six victims from the hotel to the Lumpini police station.

In a statement on the morning of July 17, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin confirmed that a group of FBI agents will arrive in Thailand to assist in the investigation, especially regarding the two victims who are American citizens. Mr. Srettha said he met with Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on the evening of July 16 to discuss the incident; and affirmed that he had directed the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation to soon announce the results.
