According to Reuters , Greek police officials said on October 30 that they arrested a 64-year-old Vietnamese woman at Athens airport on October 28. She was wanted for gold smuggling earlier.

According to the arrest warrant, this woman smuggled nearly 300 kg of gold bars by hiding them under trucks carrying rocks to bring them across the Vietnam - Cambodia border.

Last year, Interpol issued a red notice at Vietnam's request for this woman.

The woman now lives in Greece and a Greek prosecutor has ordered her detention pending extradition, one of the officials said.

She is also accused of collaborating with a group of accomplices, mainly relatives, in this large-scale gold smuggling.

"To avoid detection and identification, they passed through uncontrolled customs points. They would also remove any special letters or markings from the gold bars," Greek police said.
