Warning about the trick of installing fake VNeID to steal property

From July 1, the country has 34 provincial-level administrative units according to the new resolution, including 28 provinces and 6 cities. Taking advantage of this situation, scammers claim to be commune/ward officials, local police... call to inform people about changes in the administrative apparatus, instructing people to access strange links or install applications impersonating VNeID or public services, in order to install malware on their devices.

These subjects use virtual switchboards or mobile subscriptions to create trust, provide previously collected personal information, and then ask people to follow instructions. After people install the fake application, they take control of the device, get the bank account OTP code or steal biometric data to appropriate property.

The Ministry of Public Security recommends that people do not follow any requests over the phone from people claiming to be local officials, local police... If they need to update information, people should go directly to the police station of the commune/ward where they reside.

If you accidentally access a strange link or install an application suspected of containing malware, you should immediately turn off your phone, contact your bank to lock your account and report to the nearest police station.

The Ministry of Public Security noted that the official VNeID application was developed by the National Population Data Center, and can only be downloaded from CH Play or App Store and has the label “ Government ” or the name of a State agency. People need to carefully check the application source before installing.
