The reason why we eat red bean porridge on Qixi Festival
On Qixi Festival, young people are excited about eating red bean sweet soup to pray for love. According to legend, if single people eat red beans on Qixi Festival, they will soon find their soul mate. Those who are in a relationship and eat red beans on this day will maintain their love and bond for life.
In addition, this custom also comes from the concept that red beans are a lucky food. Red symbolizes goodness, joy, happiness and fortune.

Feng shui expert Linh Quang once shared that red beans are not only nutritious but also a feng shui item.
In feng shui, red beans have a beautiful dark red color, symbolizing luck. This color helps homeowners bring fortune into the house and dispel sadness. However, the effectiveness of using red beans depends on the efforts, fate and conditions of each person.
Nowadays, many young people no longer believe in the legend that eating red bean sweet soup on Qixi Festival will help them avoid being single. However, they still maintain this habit as a way to pass on cultural beauty.
On her personal social networking page, culinary expert Nguyen Dzoan Cam Van instructs how to cook red bean sweet soup for the Qixi Festival in a traditional, simple way, with the main ingredients including red beans and sugar.

Before cooking, red beans need to be washed, remove broken or wormy beans. Then, soak beans in water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
When the beans have expanded, add them to the pot and cook over medium heat. During this process, place a pair of chopsticks on the mouth of the pot before covering the lid to prevent overflow.
When the pot of beans boils for about 15 minutes, remove the chopsticks, cover the lid and turn off the stove. Wait about 1 hour, add water to the pot and bring to a boil again.
Repeat this step 3 times. According to expert Dzoan Cam Van, cooking with this method will make the beans soft but not expand.
Then add sugar, stir well and simmer until the beans are soft and the sweet soup is sweet enough. When enjoying, just scoop out the sweet soup and use it directly.
“This is how to eat hot chè. On rainy days, eating hot chè is very delicious,” culinary expert Dzoãn Cẩm Vân shared.
