Recently, in Ha Tinh, many households have applied science and technology to implement the yellowfin pomfret farming model, bringing in quite high economic value. The farming process shows that yellowfin pomfret adapts well, is easy to care for, and can be replaced and converted in ineffective aquaculture areas, especially in shrimp farming areas where diseases often occur.

In early 2025, Mr. Pham Van Huy - Director of Tri Ha Tinh Ha Tinh Co., Ltd. deployed a commercial farming model of yellowfin pompano that met Viet GAP standards. The farming pond has a total area of 1.3 hectares. The farmed fish are divided into 2 stages: in stage 1, the fish are raised at a density of 10 fish/ m2 , when they reach about 100g/fish, they will be transferred to other ponds for stage 2. The average density in this stage is 3 fish/ m2 . The pond is fully equipped with a water fan system, providing oxygen in the pond always above 5mg/l, the fan system ensures waste collection during the farming process, here, the fish are raised until harvest reaches a size of about 500 - 700g/fish.
All stages of farming will apply biosafety farming processes towards increasing the use of biological products in pond environment management, limiting the use of drugs and antibiotics. Regularly culturing microorganisms and pouring them into the pond to decompose fish feces throughout the farming season to ensure a clean pond environment. By complying with the technical process during the farming process, the fish have grown well. According to Mr. Pham Van Huy, after 5 months of farming, the fish now weigh about 0.5 to 0.6 kg and have begun to be sold.

With positive signals from the commercial farming model of yellowfin pomfret that meets VietGAP standards of Mr. Pham Van Huy, according to Mr. Tran Hau Thanh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thach Khe commune, if after the model is successful, the Farmers' Association of the commune will have a plan to expand the farming area, and will convert some ineffective areas to raise yellowfin pomfret.
Raising yellowfin pompano in an inefficient shrimp pond system requires attention to many factors. In particular, it is important to treat the pond bottom with lime, ensure the water source, and create suitable oxygen. The most suitable technical indicators include: Temperature 26-32 degrees Celsius, salinity 10 - 20‰, dissolved oxygen 5-7 mg/liter, water pH from 7.5 - 8.5.

To ensure safety, before stocking, the fish must have a clear origin, uniform size and no disease. Instead of feeding trash fish, the food source must use industrial food, to ensure the farming environment is always clean . Currently, there are some models of raising yellowfin pompano that meet VietGap standards. Many people after completing the model with the support of functional sectors have developed their own farming areas and initially had a stable income.
After the success of the commercial farming model of yellowfin pompano that meets VietGAP standards supported by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, this year, Mr. Nguyen Van Mai (Thien Cam commune) has released an additional 4,000 fry on an area of 3,000m2 , expecting to harvest 2 to 3 tons of commercial fish by the end of the season. In addition, he also raises shrimp and crabs to increase economic efficiency on the same unit area.

In Ha Tinh, yellowfin pomfret is raised in different forms such as: in ponds, in cages, or in combination with shrimp. In particular, recently, due to the complicated disease situation in brackish water shrimp, taking advantage of abandoned brackish water shrimp ponds to raise marine fish in general and yellowfin pomfret in particular is a practical solution, contributing to diversifying farming objects, improving income for farmers. With low costs, not too complicated techniques while consumption is favorable, yellowfin pomfret is considered a new farming object with many prospects for aquaculturists in the area.
Mr. Le Van Dung - Head of Science Management Department (Department of Science and Technology) commented: "In Ha Tinh, the area of brackish water lakes is quite large. Although the infrastructure is still limited, with the tested technical model, we can renovate ponds and apply techniques from pond treatment to care and feeding processes from fish rearing to finished product farming to bring high economic efficiency".
The initial effectiveness of the yellowfin pompano farming model in some localities has opened up directions for converting ineffective shrimp farming areas. However, the industry also recommends that when building the model, people need to apply science and technology, carefully calculate factors related to the environment, techniques, breeds and product output, to avoid widespread investment that does not promote economic efficiency.
