BSR establishes Innovation Center, realizing breakthroughs with science and technology

On June 23, 2025, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) established the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company Branch - BSR Innovation Center (BSR Innovation Center).

The Board of Directors of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company ( BSR ) has issued Decision No. 2216/QD-BSR on the establishment of the Branch of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company - BSR Innovation Center. The establishment of the Center is a strategic step to realize Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology (S&T) development, innovation (I&T) and national digital transformation (DCT), along with Resolutions, directions and orientations of all levels on the development of S&T, I&T, and DCT and Resolution 951-NQ/DU of the Petrovietnam Party Committee on breakthroughs in science and technology (S&T), I&T and DCT development.

Previously, at the second Conference of the Party Executive Committee of the Company, term 2025-2030, the Party Executive Committee of BSR discussed and unanimously approved the policy of establishing the Innovation Center. This is one of the contents to concretize the strategic orientation of the Company's science and technology development in the new term, aiming to strongly promote innovation activities, apply high technology, accelerate comprehensive digital transformation and enhance internal capacity to flexibly adapt to the challenges of the new production and business environment.

The center's full name is Branch of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company - BSR Innovation Center. The English name is Branch of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company - BSR Innovation Center, abbreviated as BSR-IC. The center is located on the 8th Floor, Da Nang Software Park Building, No. 02 Quang Trung, Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City, the leading technology and innovation center in the Central region.

BSR Innovation Center has a wide scope of activities, including research and technology development in the fields of science and technology and natural sciences; repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment in the refining and petrochemical industry; provision of technical services for production, processing and trading of petroleum products, intermediate products and biofuels; management and supply of high-quality human resources for operations, maintenance, testing, fire prevention and fighting, environment, health and occupational health; consulting and assessment of quality assurance systems according to international ISO standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 17025.

Placing BSR-IC in Da Nang shows BSR's strategic vision

Locating the Center in Da Nang not only demonstrates BSR's strategic vision in integrating into the national innovation ecosystem, but also creates conditions to connect and attract young intellectuals, technology experts, academies, universities, technology startups and social resources to serve the journey of increasing added value and promoting sustainable growth. This will be an important core in the research and development system, helping BSR proactively design the future with knowledge and technology instead of just reacting to market fluctuations.

In the period 2020 - 2025, BSR has made a strong mark in innovation. Thousands of initiatives have been directly applied to the operation of Dung Quat Oil Refinery, contributing to optimizing performance, reducing production costs and improving equipment utilization.

In the field of technology, BSR has pioneered the application of artificial intelligence and big data analysis to equipment monitoring, incident warning and energy consumption management. Some experimental AI models have brought positive results, helping to detect risks early and provide intervention solutions before incidents occur. This is an important premise to move towards building a "Smart Factory" model, an inevitable trend in the 4.0 industrial revolution.

Along with that, BSR is also one of the first enterprises in the oil and gas industry to build a comprehensive digital transformation strategy, deploying an enterprise data platform and a real-time production operating system. By 2025, many important subsystems have been successfully digitized, helping to increase operational efficiency and risk control. In addition, online training systems, internal knowledge sharing platforms and digital collaboration tools have also been invested in to enhance the internal capacity of technical and management staff.

In particular, the Company has conducted pilot production and achieved initial success with the sale of the first batch of SAF in June 2025. This is the result of research, innovation and close cooperation between technical and operational departments and international technology partners.
