Vietnam women's volleyball team won the first set against Poland

On the evening of August 23, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team had their opening match at the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup against Poland.

This is the first time in history that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has competed in this playground. Poland is the third-ranked team in the world with outstanding experience and class.

Therefore, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team was not highly rated, but the Vietnamese girls still knew how to create an earthquake against this opponent.

In set 1, they surprised everyone by creating a tense match. Against a tall opponent, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team used special moves. They did not hit the ball too much but focused on tricky drop shots.

Thanh Thuy, Bich Thuy, and Nhu Quynh were the key scorers, helping the Vietnamese women's volleyball team create an earthquake with a 25-23 victory in set 1.

Against a team of Poland's stature, winning a set was unthinkable for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. However, they could not maintain their excitement afterwards.

In sets 2 and 3, Poland took full advantage of their height to win 25-10 and 25-12.

In set 4, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team rose up, played resiliently and surprised everyone again by leading 6-0. However, their declining physical strength prevented them from maintaining their advantage.

Poland won 25-22 in this game, thereby ending the match with a score of 3-1.

Even though they lost, winning a set brought a lot of benefits to the Vietnamese team. Specifically, they were only deducted 0.01 points in the world rankings, instead of being deducted up to 1.7 points in the case of losing 0-3.

The small point deduction helps the Vietnamese team have more chances to maintain its current 22nd ranking.
