Recalling cosmetics with exaggerated advertising, 'for skin as white and smooth as the sun'

The Drug Administration of Vietnam has just issued a document recalling two batches of products that violated regulations on labeling and instructions for use, with advertising phrases that exaggerate actual uses and features.

The Drug Administration Department has issued a document recalling and suspending the circulation of a batch of E150 turmeric cream, box of 1 tube of 20g, batch number 01, produced by Tan Ha Lan Company Limited in Hanoi, which is responsible for bringing the product to the market, and the company's branch in Bac Ninh.

The E150 turmeric cream sample was taken by the Hanoi Department of Health's Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing Center at Nam An Pharmaceutical Trading Joint Stock Company (counter 342, 3rd floor of Hapu Pharmaceutical Distribution Center) for testing. The results showed that the content on the label did not match the declaration form.

In particular, the products advertise content such as "for smooth, white skin as bright as the sun", "natural vitamin E", "removes dark spots", "helps eliminate acne", "removes stretch marks, eliminates dark spots".

In addition, the product Sofpaifa (box of 1 tube of 5g, batch number 0010724) of Quang Minh Pharmaceutical Trading Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh City was also recalled and suspended from circulation due to the same violation.

These products use misleading phrases such as: "Cream for itching caused by mosquito, ant... bites", "has anti-itch, antiseptic, and skin soothing properties" and list effectiveness against many types of insects without scientific basis.

The Drug Administration requires local health departments to notify businesses to stop selling, using, and returning the products to suppliers. Violating businesses must recall and destroy the products if they cannot separate the offending labels, and review other batches that may have similar errors.

Recently, the management agency has discovered many violations at production and business establishments, and has recalled and destroyed many fake and poor quality drugs and cosmetics. The Department also recommends that people do not believe in advertisements that exaggerate the effects of the products when buying and using them.
