Sharing information about the two cases mentioned above, Dr. Nguyen Van Nhat, Department of Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison (Thanh Oai General Hospital) said: At about 4:30 pm on June 30, the Department of Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison received patient Nguyen Thi Cam (52 years old); patient Duong Van Nghia (53 years old) was planting rice in the field when he was struck by lightning.

Two patients were admitted to the hospital in a state of being affected by the electric source transmitted from the lightning, not directly striking the body, so they were still conscious, with symptoms of numbness and pain along the arm on the side exposed to the electric source emitted by the lightning.

As soon as the patient was admitted, the doctors and nurses promptly performed emergency measures such as examining the patient's condition, placing an IV, administering oxygen, monitoring vital signs, and arrhythmias via a monitor, explaining and reassuring the patient, and performing an electrocardiogram on the patient...

After receiving emergency care and health monitoring, the patient's vital signs gradually stabilized, the patient's condition improved positively, with no signs of arrhythmia.

On the morning of July 1, the patient was ordered to do basic blood tests and the results were normal. He was then ordered a CT scan of the brain to assess the damage, with normal results. Fortunately, the patient is now conscious and continues to be monitored.

Doctor Nguyen Van Nhat recommends: The North is in the rainy and stormy season, so during this time, people should limit going outdoors during thunderstorms and storms. To avoid lightning strikes when outdoors in open spaces such as fields during storms, when hearing thunder, people need to find shelter immediately, stay away from open spaces, large trees, high voltage electric poles; should not take shelter under the eaves of houses, and should not stand in large groups close together.

If outdoors, people should stay as low as possible. In particular, people should absolutely not use electronic devices during thunderstorms and turn off the power and disconnect electrical devices in the house when there is thunder and lightning.

When a person is struck by lightning, it is necessary to quickly check the reaction and breathing. If the victim is unconscious, has stopped breathing, or has a cardiac arrest, immediately perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation if possible; at the same time, take the victim to a medical facility promptly.
