Storm No. 5 makes landfall from Nghe An to Ha Tinh

At 5:00 p.m. on August 25, storm No. 5 made landfall in the coastal area from Nghe An to Ha Tinh, with the strongest winds near the storm's center at level 11-12, gusting at level 13-14.

Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Mr. Mai Van Khiem said that by 10:00 p.m. on August 25, the center of storm No. 5 is forecast to be at about 18.6 degrees North latitude; 105.2 degrees East longitude, on the mainland of the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh . The strongest wind near the center of the storm is level 8 - 9, gusting to level 11; moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 15 - 20 km/hour.

Forecast at 4:00 a.m. on August 26, the center of the storm is at about 18.8 degrees North latitude; 104.2 degrees East longitude, on the mainland of the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh. The strongest wind near the center of the storm is level 6, gusting to level 8; moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 15 - 20 km/hour. By 4:00 p.m. on August 26, the storm is over Central Laos and gradually weakens into a low pressure area.

Previously, storm No. 5 barely moved, its intensity decreased to level 12, gusting to level 14. It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, storm No. 5 will move in a West-Northwest direction, entering the mainland of the North Ha Tinh - South Nghe An area. The risk of strong winds from storm No. 5 still persists.

At 4:00 p.m. on August 25, the center of the storm was located at approximately 18.4 degrees North latitude; 106.0 degrees East longitude, in the coastal waters of Nghe An-Ha Tinh. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 11-12 (103-133 km/h), gusting to level 14; moving in a West Northwest direction at a speed of 15-20 km/h.

Recorded at 4:30 p.m. on August 25, at Xuan Thanh Beach Resort (Thanh Long village, Tien Dien commune, Ha Tinh province), the rain was still heavy, the storm No. 5 wind was very strong and terrible.

A series of trees were broken by the wind, many roofs of houses and restaurants were blown off and damaged. At this time, to ensure safety, in the tourist area, all people do not go outside for fear of being hit by broken roofs and trees.

According to local people, this is the time when storm No. 5 is making landfall in the Xuan Thanh Tourist Area. The entire area is currently without power.

Meanwhile, in Thanh Sen ward, Thien Cam commune and many other localities in Ha Tinh province, storm No. 5 and heavy rain also caused many houses, roofs, and auxiliary works of people to be blown off and severely damaged; a series of trees were knocked down.

A fallen tree blocking the railway, local authorities and police in Phuc Trach commune (Ha Tinh) have been working to clear the route.

On the afternoon of August 25, Mr. Duong Ngoc Hoang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Trach Commune, Ha Tinh Province, said that due to the impact of storm No. 5, some trees fell on the North-South railway line, passing through Phu Lap village, affecting the traffic of the train. Immediately after receiving the report, the police force of Phuc Trach Commune, local authorities and village officials promptly went down to handle the situation, clearing the scene of the fallen trees, ensuring the train route was cleared at around 3:20 p.m. the same day.

On the same afternoon, according to the leader of Ha Tinh Electricity Company, due to the impact of storm No. 5, about 70% of customers in Ha Tinh lost power. Currently, the weather is complicated so it is not possible to implement the repair.

According to SGGP Newspaper's reporter, from 11am to 2pm this afternoon, Hanoi and many places in the North had torrential rain, without stopping.

Due to the impact of storm No. 5, many coastal areas and the Northern Delta and North Central Coast have strong winds, heavy rain and high water.

At Bach Long Vi meteorological station (Hai Phong city), strong winds of level 7, gusts of level 9; Co To (Quang Ninh province) winds of level 7, gusts of level 10; Bai Chay (Quang Ninh province) winds of level 6, gusts of level 8; Van Ly (Ninh Binh province) winds of level 8, gusts of level 9. Nghe An province has strong winds of level 7, gusts of level 9 in Dien Chau; level 7, gusts of level 12 in Quynh Luu; level 8, gusts of level 11 in Hon Ngu.

Ha Tinh also had wind level 7, gusting to level 9 in Hoanh Son; level 7, gusting to level 11 in Ky Anh; wind level 8 in Cam Nhuong. On Con Co island (Quang Tri province), strong wind level 6, gusting to level 8.

Speaking to the press at noon on August 25, Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, warned that after storm No. 5 made landfall, very heavy rain would cover the entire North and Central regions due to the large cloud disk brought inland by storm No. 5.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that heavy rains continued to cover many areas from the afternoon of August 25 to the end of August 26. The Northern Midlands and Delta, Lao Cai, Son La and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will have widespread rain with rainfall ranging from 70-150mm, many places over 250mm.

Particularly, the area from Thanh Hoa to Northern Quang Tri is forecast to have very heavy rain, total rainfall of 150-350mm, some places exceeding 500mm, with warnings of heavy rain over 200mm in 3 hours. In Hanoi on August 25 and 26, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain with thunderstorms; Da Nang will have occasional showers; Ho Chi Minh City will have rain and thunderstorms concentrated in the evening, with the potential risk of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

From the afternoon of August 25 to 27, the Upper Laos and Central Laos regions will have heavy rain with rainfall of 100-250mm, locally in Central Laos over 500mm, with a high risk of flash floods and inundation.
