Positive change

The livestock sector is considered a bright spot in the growth of the agricultural sector this year. The price of live pigs has continuously increased sharply, reaching a record high and is currently maintaining a high level. For poultry, there has also been a stable development in product prices and consumption markets, and farmers have made profits. Diseases are well controlled, and no dangerous diseases have occurred that need to be announced... are important factors for farmers to continue investing in herd restoration and production expansion.

Pig farm of Son Dong Livestock Company Limited.

Recently, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung's household in Canh Thuy commune sold nearly 500 pigs. Realizing that the consumption market was favorable, prices were high, the epidemic situation was well controlled, and the price of animal feed was stable, he immediately disinfected the entire barn to invest in re-herding with nearly 1,000 piglets. "With the current selling price of live pigs at around 70,000 VND/kg, while the price of animal feed has only increased slightly, we are making a good profit," said Mr. Dung.

According to the assessment of the authorities, livestock farmers in Bac Ninh province have changed from small-scale, household production to concentrated, large-scale, chain-linked livestock farming. Many models apply new scientific and technical advances to production, creating products with high productivity and quality, ensuring food and environmental safety. In particular, many farm owners invest in closed barns with cooling systems, automatic feeding and drinking water troughs, treat livestock waste with biogas tanks, microbial products and apply biosafety processes, organic production, VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, and circulation. Hundreds of livestock processing farms are in the chain of large companies such as: CP, DABACO, ANT, Hoa Phat , RTD, MAVIN, Hai Thinh...

Many laying hen farms have hundreds of thousands of hens raised using biosafety methods. From calculating food rations, providing drinking water for chickens, collecting eggs and adjusting temperature and light, all are controlled by machines. The waste collection system is automatically processed with biological products, aerated composting, fermentation, helping to decompose quickly and cause less odor. Modern farming methods not only bring high profits, reduce labor costs but also ensure environmental hygiene.

The pig farm of H&Q Vietnam Livestock Company Limited in Tam Tien Commune has an area of 2 hectares, raising 2.4 thousand sows. Each month, the company sells 5-6 thousand piglets. The company is cooperating with Japfa Comfeed Vietnam Limited Company to process livestock, so from breeding, animal feed, veterinary medicine to consumption, all are undertaken by the partner, the selling price is stable. The company invested in building a closed-loop waste treatment system using modern manure separation technology, a biogas tank with a capacity of 6 thousand cubic meters, almost completely treating livestock waste. The farm is located in a separate location from the residential area, the entire wastewater system is treated through 7 regulating reservoirs and uses a circulating pump so it does not flow into the environment. Livestock waste is used to produce electricity and as fertilizer for crops on the farm.

Export oriented

Livestock farming in Bac Ninh province is witnessing the strongest change ever. Authorities believe that after the merger, Bac Ninh province has a lot of room to develop livestock farming in the direction of concentrated farms, sustainable linkages with environmental protection and improving product quality.

The total pig herd in the province in the first 6 months of the year reached more than 1.1 million heads, poultry herd more than 25.2 million heads, cow herd more than 112 thousand heads... From now until the end of the year, output will continue to increase strongly due to stable product prices, some types tend to increase.

According to Mr. Luong Duc Kien, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Bac Ninh province, up to now, the total pig herd in the province in the first 6 months of the year has reached more than 1.1 million heads; poultry herd is more than 25.2 million heads, cow herd is more than 112 thousand heads... From now until the end of the year, output continues to increase strongly due to stable selling prices of products, some types tend to increase. In addition, after the merger of the province, with the policies to support livestock breeding, veterinary medicine and promote chain linkage of Bac Ninh province (old) covering the entire Bac Ninh province (new), plus the expanded consumption market in the province will be an important basis for the livestock sector to grow stronger.

According to Mr. Luong Duc Kien, the issue of linking the chain from production to processing, product consumption, ensuring disease safety as well as the environment, improving product quality, aiming for export is considered an important factor for sustainable livestock development. In particular, the treatment of pig waste is one of the issues of concern today. In some communes, a pilot model is using electromagnetic equipment technology and Korean biological products to increase the rate of digestion and absorption, reduce emissions, and limit odors. After 15 days, livestock waste can be directly applied to crops without composting. This is an advance in pig waste treatment and can be replicated.

In the coming time, the agricultural sector will continue to encourage and facilitate businesses to invest in upgrading large-scale, high-quality livestock farms, ensuring stable growth and minimizing negative impacts on the environment. Promote the application of science and technology, advanced production processes, organic and circular livestock farming; build biosafety livestock farms, create clean products, traceable in origin and environmentally friendly. Thereby aiming to form concentrated, closed livestock farming areas far from residential areas, with chain links from livestock farming to slaughter, processing and product distribution; improve the quality of livestock, especially chickens and pigs, gradually exporting officially.
