'Supeman', 'Jurassic World Rebirth', 'Lilo&Stitch', 'F1' help summer movie season be profitable

'Superman' dominates the box office, grossing $217 million worldwide after its opening weekend.

Superman is directed by James Gunn and stars David Corenswet (Superman) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane). In the film, the hero Superman tries to prove to the world that he is fighting for good after evil tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) tries to sway public opinion against him.

In Vietnam, Superman is leading the box office revenue with 12.4 billion VND, surpassing Sugarcane Factory Ghost, Last Wish and Jurassic World Rebirth .

Superman resets the DC Universe

The $225 million film marks a major reset in the DC Universe, backed by Warner Bros. After the studio's most recent superhero franchises flopped miserably, including The Flash , Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom , James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired in 2022 to overhaul DC Studios. They laid out a 10-year plan for interconnected stories and spin-offs, including Supergirl and Clayface in 2026.

Coming in second on the international chart is Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth , which grossed $68 million from 82 foreign markets, bringing the dinosaur adventure's international total to $297 million. Jurassic World Rebirth, the reboot of the decades-old franchise starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and more, has crossed the $500 million mark, with $529 million to date.

In third place is F1: The Movie , Apple Studios’ racing film starring Brad Pitt, which added $38.5 million internationally and $51.5 million domestically, moving impressively close to $400 million worldwide. It now has $257 million internationally and $393 million globally, cementing its position as Apple’s highest-grossing film to date.

Disney's Lilo & Stitch is one step away from becoming the first billion-dollar movie this year. The live-action remake has been a huge success, earning $579 million overseas and $994 million globally after eight weeks in theaters.
