Refuting information about police not helping people during storms

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Due to the impact of storm No. 5 and the storm's circulation, in recent days, many areas in the province have been flooded, landslides have occurred, many residential areas have been submerged in water and isolated from the outside. The armed forces of the whole province have been on standby 100% of their troops, 24/7 in all localities to promptly respond to natural disasters. However, on the evening of August 27, a clip was circulated on social networks, said to be recorded by residents of Ham Rong ward, reflecting that the police force refused to support when requested by residents. After verification, the authorities have denied the above information.

Refuting information about police not helping people during storms

Authorities provided food, clean water and evacuated people from flooded areas in Ham Rong ward (old Thieu Duong area).

Specifically, the clip recorded the scene of the police force recovering the vehicle, while the people in the clip spoke up, saying that the police force refused to assist, forcing people to wade through strong water to return home.

Regarding the above incident, a representative of the Traffic Police Department, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police - one of the units deploying forces to support people in responding to the storm, said: the incident occurred at Street 8, Street 9, Street 10, Ham Rong Ward. During the two days of August 26 and 27, due to the high water level of the Ma River, the entire area outside the dike here was deeply submerged in water. Forces including local authorities, militia, ward police and the Traffic Police Department, Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police mobilized forces and motorboats to provide necessities to people, and at the same time brought all residents in deeply flooded areas, at risk of affecting their lives, to the inside of the dike.

At around 6:00 p.m. on August 27, seeing signs of water receding, some residents who were subject to evacuation requested the authorities to mobilize vehicles to return home. However, because it was already dark, the weather forecast was still rainy, and the water was still flowing rapidly in the flooded area, the authorities explained and refused the request to ensure absolute safety for the people. This is also an immutable principle in disaster response and rescue work because "people's lives come first and foremost".

It is known that the above video clip was removed just a few hours after being posted. Currently, the authorities are continuing to verify the source of the above video to handle it according to the provisions of the law.

This incident shows that, in response to floods and inundations, in addition to essential survival skills, people need to absolutely comply with the requests of authorities and rescue units, not return to dangerous areas to avoid unnecessary risks, and be careful in speaking and posting information on social networks, not disseminating or spreading false information because this is a violation of the law.
