The Southeast region has long been one of the most dynamic economic centers of Vietnam, with strong development in the industrial, service and urban sectors. In this context, Phu My town in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is emerging as a bright spot in the region thanks to large-scale industrial, service and urban complex development projects.
With its strategic location and great development potential, Phu My is attracting a series of investors, creating a solid foundation for the Southeast to become the leading economic development region in the country.
Development potential of Phu My
Phu My has a strategic location in the Southern Key Economic Zone, close to important international ports such as Cai Mep - Thi Vai, the largest deep-water port system in Vietnam capable of receiving ships of up to 200,000 tons. This makes Phu My not only an industrial production center but also a logistics and international freight hub, opening up great development opportunities for related service industries.

Developing transport infrastructure is one of the important factors to support Phu My's potential. Key transport routes such as National Highway 51 and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway are being invested in and expanded, helping Phu My connect conveniently with major economic centers such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Vung Tau. This contributes to creating conditions for Phu My to become an attractive investment destination for industry and services, with attractive incentive policies for green, clean and sustainable industries.
Currently, Phu My has formed many large-scale industrial parks, including Phu My I, II, III and My Xuan A, B industrial parks with a total area of thousands of hectares, focusing on heavy industry, chemicals, processing and component manufacturing.
According to a report from the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, by 2024, these industrial parks have attracted more than 50 foreign investment projects and created jobs for tens of thousands of local workers, contributing significantly to the province's GDP.
Not only an industrial center, Phu My also promotes the development of logistics, warehousing, and transportation services to serve import and export needs through the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system. Major logistics service projects have been and are being implemented, helping Phu My become an important international freight transit center.
Along with industrial and service development, Phu My also focuses on modern urban development, with residential projects, commercial centers and entertainment areas. New urban areas such as Phu My Eco City and Phu My Central City have created a civilized and convenient urban appearance, meeting the needs of housing and living services for residents and the rapidly growing labor force in the area.
Economic impact of complexes on the Southeast
The development of industrial - service - urban complexes in Phu My has a positive impact on the economy of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in particular and the Southeast region in general.
According to 2023 data, Ba Ria - Vung Tau contributes more than 7% to the country's GDP and is one of the localities with the highest GDP per capita. Phu My contributes significantly to the province's economic growth rate of 6-8%, contributing to affirming its role as an economic locomotive of the Southeast region.

In addition, the strong development of Phu My has promoted supporting industries such as manufacturing components, industrial equipment and maintenance services. This helps increase domestic self-sufficiency, reduce dependence on imports, and create a sustainable domestic supply chain.
In terms of human resources, Phu My has been implementing many training programs, cooperating with universities and vocational training institutions to improve the skills of local workers. This not only meets the demand for high-quality human resources of factories but also creates stable employment opportunities, contributing to improving the quality of life for people in the area.
Despite its potential and achievements, Phu My also faces many challenges in its development process. One of the biggest challenges is environmental pollution caused by industrial activities. To address this issue, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has asked businesses to invest in clean technology, ensure waste treatment systems meet national and international standards, and encourage the application of circular economic models.
Regarding infrastructure and social security, to ensure the quality of life for residents and workers in Phu My, the provincial government has been investing in health, education, and social housing projects. These projects include hospitals and schools, creating conditions for workers and their families to have a good living and working environment.
In addition, synchronizing regional infrastructure is also an important factor to ensure the sustainable development of Phu My. Major transportation projects such as Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, National Highway 51 expansion and railway system connecting to neighboring areas will support Phu My in transporting goods from the port, while helping workers move conveniently between key economic areas.

Mr. Pham Viet Thanh, Secretary of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee, said that Phu My is facing new opportunities and chances to gradually affirm its role as an important growth pole not only of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province but also of the Southeast region and the whole country.
Recently, Resolution 24 of the Politburo determined the formation of a free trade zone associated with seaports in the Cai Mep Ha area, continuing to develop and modernize the Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port cluster and developing large-scale industrial - service - urban complexes in the new city of Phu My. The above important orientation has also been specified in the Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Government.
In the future, Phu My is oriented to become an industrial urban area, a modern seaport. In which, the strengths of the country's special seaport system will be exploited and promoted, Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport will be developed commensurate with the role of a gateway port with the function of international container transit, building a large-scale, modern seaport and logistics service center of national and international level.
