The National Competition Commission ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) has just received a report from Anker Innovations Limited about the recall program of Anker brand backup batteries with product codes: A1681, A1689, A1257, A1647 that were sold to consumers in Vietnam.
Specifically, the recall program for backup battery products has the following product codes (PN): PN: A1681: Anker Zolo backup battery (20K, 30W, integrated USB-C and Lightning cable); PN: A1689: Anker Zolo backup battery (20K, 30W, integrated USB-C cable); PN: A1257: Anker backup battery (10K, 22.5W) and PN: A1647: Anker backup battery (20,000mAh, 22.5W, integrated USB-C cable).
The manufacturer said the affected products are designed to provide portable charging solutions for electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops distributed through direct retail channels as well as e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, Tiktok. The total number of affected products in Vietnam is 30,927.
The cause of the recall was determined by Anker to be an error that arose during the welding process of the negative electrode of the battery cell.
The incident occurred between November and December 2023, when the welding capacity of the newly put into operation coil equipment fluctuated, leading to poor weld quality.
This technical error leads to the risk of internal short circuit, making the battery cells susceptible to overheating, especially after aging.
At the same time, analysis from the business also discovered that the level of iron impurities in the battery's positive electrode exceeded the allowable threshold, potentially posing an additional risk of reducing product reliability and safety.
Although no injuries have been reported in Vietnam, Anker is still proactively implementing the recall program in a precautionary manner, to ensure safety standards and maximum benefits for consumers. Affected products will be exchanged for new ones free of charge or replaced with gift certificates. Anker is responsible for all recall and repair costs.
The program will begin on June 27, 2025 and will last until completion. Consumers can check the product code printed on the bottom of the power bank and compare it with the list published on Anker's official website (https://www.anker.com/vn). If the product is subject to recall, customers are advised to send contact information for instructions on handling and returning it.
In its role as a state management agency for consumer rights protection, the National Competition Commission said it is closely monitoring the entire recall process carried out by Anker Innovations Limited.
