Alcaraz has a chance to make Grand Slam history

(Dan Tri) - If Carlos Alcaraz wins Wimbledon 2025, he will become the third tennis player in the world to win both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in two consecutive years, after legends Bjorn Borg and Stefanie Graf.

As Carlos Alcaraz returns to the legendary courts of the All England Club, the reigning Wimbledon champion is on the brink of a historic milestone.

If the ATP world No. 2 successfully defends his title on grass, he will not only win his second consecutive Wimbledon title but also complete the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in the same year, a feat only six other men in the Open Era have achieved.

The legendary Bjorn Borg set the standard for surface dominance in 1978-1980, when he won both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in three consecutive years, a feat that has not been repeated since. If Alcaraz succeeds this year, he will become only the second man after Borg to win the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.

Alcaraz enters the third Grand Slam of the season on an 18-match winning streak, the longest of his career. The impressive run was highlighted by victories in Rome and Paris, where he defeated world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in both finals. The 22-year-old Spaniard is now aiming for his sixth Grand Slam title, following victories at the 2022 US Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon and 2024 and 2025 Roland Garros.

The rapid transition from the slow, physical clay of Paris to the slippery grass of Wimbledon in just three weeks has frustrated even the greatest champions. Alcaraz is one of only six men in the Open Era to win both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, along with Rod Laver (1969), Borg (1978, 1979, 1980), Rafael Nadal (2008, 2010), Roger Federer (2009) and Novak Djokovic (2021).

In the women's category, only one WTA player has done the same as Borg: Stefanie Graf, who completed back-to-back Roland Garros-Wimbledon doubles in 1995 and 1996.

Alcaraz arrived in London after an unsuccessful start to the HSBC Championships last week, but he was able to claim his second title at Queen's Club, further cementing his status as a strong contender for Wimbledon. The defending champion has an 18-2 record at Wimbledon.
