The Sinclair C5 electric tricycle was once hailed as “ahead of its time” but soon fell into oblivion due to weak batteries and lack of safety.
Pop-up ads invented by Ethan Zuckerman were once expected to support the internet, but later turned out to be a nightmare for users. Hydrogen airships were once a symbol of luxury travel, but the Hindenburg disaster in 1937 ended this era completely.
Even modern chewing gum and plastic bags are listed as “harmful” because they cause serious environmental pollution. In particular, the Apple Newton - a device once introduced by Steve Jobs - became a long slide because it was too expensive and ineffective.
