Spotify surprises with in-app messaging feature

Spotify has just introduced a Messages feature that allows users to chat and share music, podcasts and audiobooks directly within the music app.

This feature applies to both free and Premium accounts, ages 16 and up.

Messages only supports private messaging, no group chats like Messenger or WhatsApp.

Users can send music to friends they interact with via playlists, Jams, or Family plans.

When sharing, recipients can respond with emojis, text, or send Spotify content back.

All chats are encrypted and have spam detection technology.

Spotify insists the feature adds to the social experience, not replaces other chat apps.
