O Dien Commune held a ceremony to commemorate the 846th anniversary of the death of the famous person To Hien Thanh.

On the morning of July 6, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of O Dien commune solemnly held a ceremony to commemorate the 846th death anniversary of To Hien Thanh, a great politician and cultural personality of the Vietnamese people in the 12th century.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the People's Committee of O Dien Commune, Do Chi Hung, reviewed the 846th anniversary of the death of the famous person To Hien Thanh, to express pride and honor the great contributions of the famous person to Vietnamese history and culture.

Commune Chairman Do Chi Hung said: Ha Mo - O Dien is a land of outstanding people, the confluence of three rivers: Hong, Day, Nhue. In the 6th century, O Dien ancient citadel was built by Ly Phat Tu and made the capital of Van Xuan state. The Later Ly dynasty since the reign of Thai To Ly Cong Uan (1010) lasted 215 years and produced many "enlightened kings - virtuous subjects" such as kings: Ly Thai To, Ly Thai Tong, Ly Thanh Tong, Ly Nhan Tong, Thai Uy Ly Thuong Kiet, Thai Uy To Hien Thanh...

To Hien Thanh, whose pen name was Phi Dien, was born in 1102 in Ha Mo village, O Dien commune, Hanoi city. He passed the Thai Hoc Sinh exam and became an official under the dynasties of Ly Than Tong, Ly Anh Tong, and Ly Cao Tong. As a talented politician , he was both a scholar and a martial artist, a defender of the religion, a protector of the people, loyal to the king, patriotic, and famous for his fairness and integrity. To Hien Thanh helped the king quell domestic chaos, fight against the invading army of Cambodia, conquer Champa, maintain the border, reclaim wasteland, expand the territory, make Dai Viet a strong nation, forcing the Song Dynasty to recognize Dai Viet as an independent nation in 1164.

As Grand Tutor, To Hien Thanh also devoted himself to improving political affairs, expanding culture, restoring and embellishing the Temple of Literature, focusing on the imperial examinations, and selecting talented people to serve the country. In 1175, King Ly Anh Tong appointed To Hien Thanh to the position of Grand Tutor, Minister of Military Affairs (Prime Minister), and the title of King.

The bright, simple, noble, honest and charismatic example of the famous person To Hien Thanh is clearly shown: Resolutely deny bribes, not afraid of pressure, determined to follow the will, choosing talented people to help the king defend the country. A lifetime as a loyal general, acting as regent for the king, he was not greedy, always maintaining his integrity and noble personality. When he died, the king took seven days off from court and fasted for three days to show his condolences.

The life and career of To Hien Thanh exudes a typical cultural personality of Vietnam. What we learn and absorb most deeply through To Hien Thanh's life and career is the spirit of patriotism, love for the people; the spirit of uncompromising fights for morality, for the people. To Hien Thanh and his legacy are not only forever honored and proud by the Vietnamese people, but also admired by international friends.

Chairman of the People's Committee of O Dien Commune, Do Chi Hung, said: On December 12, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1569/QD-TTg approving the planning of the To Hien Thanh Heritage Park in Ha Mo - O Dien's hometown. The Hanoi People's Committee has approved the policy of establishing a plan to preserve, restore and rehabilitate the To Hien Thanh Historical Relic Complex associated with the space of O Dien Ancient Citadel until 2035, with a vision to 2050.

In the coming time, the Party Committee and People's Committee of O Dien commune will carry out the following tasks: Establish a project to dredge the Nhue River, build the To Hien Thanh Cultural Heritage Park, prepare a dossier to request UNESCO to recognize To Hien Thanh as a World Cultural Celebrity; proposes to upgrade the relic cluster of Van Hien Temple, Van Xuan Communal House, Hai Giac Pagoda, Ham Rong Temple, Chinh Khi Temple, and Chi Tri Temple as Special National Monuments.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of O Dien commune affirmed that it is necessary to continue to protect and promote the value of the heritage, creating new vitality for the relic so that the heritage of the famous person To Hien Thanh will last forever, spread more and more, contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national identity, truly becoming an endogenous strength, an important driving force for the development of O Dien commune to become increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized.
