The internal structure of the agricultural sector in the province continues to shift, increasing the proportion of livestock and agricultural services. Especially after the merger, the total livestock herd of Dong Nai province has increased compared to before, continuing to be the "capital" of livestock in the country.

Great potential for cultivation

After the merger, the province's annual crop area reached about 150,500 hectares, focusing on main crops such as corn, rice, and various vegetables.

Dong Nai province continues to be the "capital" of industrial and fruit crops in the country with a total area of perennial crops reaching more than 609 thousand hectares. Of which, the area of perennial industrial crops reaches nearly 511.5 thousand hectares. Some key industrial crops have the top areas in the country such as: rubber, cashew, pepper. In particular, farmers are interested in applying technical advances in varieties, sustainable farming processes, and applying mechanization in production. The province has also formed large specialized areas of industrial crops with high productivity and good quality. Dong Nai has also attracted many corporations and enterprises to invest in the fields of preservation, preliminary processing, and processing associated with raw material areas. Thanks to that, the export turnover of key products such as rubber, cashew, coffee, etc. of the province is among the top in the country.

In 2024, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the province will reach 50.6 trillion VND, an increase of more than 3.5% compared to 2023. In the period of 2021-2025, the average growth of agricultural, forestry and fishery production value in the province is estimated at 3.67%/year, among the top in terms of growth in the Southeast region.

The total fruit tree area of the province reaches nearly 97.6 thousand hectares, focusing on key trees with high economic efficiency such as durian, tissue culture banana for export, grapefruit, mango, rambutan...

In recent years, the area of durian trees in the province has been increasing rapidly because this crop brings high profits. Not only has the area increased rapidly, but durian farmers are also interested in investing in high-value specialty varieties, applying science and technology to production, and creating export growing area codes to increase the competitive advantage of this crop. Dong Nai province is currently among the top provinces in the country in terms of the number of durian growing area codes exported to the Chinese market.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Dung, Director of Thinh Bach Import Export Company Limited (Ho Chi Minh City), said that the company is making efforts to connect with durian growing areas in neighboring provinces, including Dong Nai province, to find qualified durian sources to supply to the export market. Dong Nai province has the advantage of having formed large-scale durian growing areas that meet safety standards, especially the fact that cadmium contamination, which is currently a barrier to durian exports, has not been detected. This company also highly appreciates that Dong Nai has many effective durian growing models such as: Queen Farm, a large-scale high-tech durian farm in Dang Ha commune; Phu Son Agricultural Service Cooperative (Phu Lam commune) is the cooperative with the largest export growing area code in the province with 350 hectares...

Forming the capital of industrial livestock farming

After the merger, the province's total pig herd reached more than 4.1 million heads; the total poultry herd reached 35.9 million heads. Compared to the total pig herd nationwide of 31.8 million heads, the total poultry herd reached 584.4 million heads, Dong Nai province continues to hold the position of the "capital" of livestock farming in the country with a large total herd.

According to Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Tri Cong, the livestock industry in the province has promoted the application of science and technology, transforming from small-scale livestock farming to large-scale industrial farming. The application of high technology in livestock farming has achieved many positive results with many models applying the most advanced and modern technology today such as: livestock farming using cold barns; using electronic chips to control temperature, drinking water, and the amount of animal feed consumed; using software in farm management...

In addition to the main livestock, with thousands of hectares of aquaculture and large surface areas of rivers, streams, ponds and lakes, Dong Nai province has advantages in developing aquaculture. The production value of the aquaculture industry in the province is always at the top in terms of growth. In particular, the high-tech shrimp farming model with good profits is constantly being replicated. Specifically, the production value/hectare of high-tech shrimp farming reaches 700-800 million VND, ranking at the top in terms of income compared to other production models.

In addition, the province is also focusing on developing some livestock with high economic value such as the bird's nest industry. Dong Nai is leading the Southeast region in developing the bird's nest farming industry with about 1,370 bird's nest houses, producing about 15 tons/year.
